the "hardware gimmick" on starfox is that it was the first cartrige with the FX chip. it was basically the first console game with *true* 3d graphics (although it rendered prettly slow on the SNES's hardware) other games like donkey kong country used and improved on the chip, but finally the idea was dumped in favor of a new system.
....before anything can be done about the DMCA. lawmakers arent going to just repeal it one day because they finally figured out that it is completely wrong. before anything is going to be done about it, someone has to take it to court. i suggest someone out there with balls prepare your legal defence (it will be a hard fight, but a very noble cause) and then go out and do what this guy couldnt.
i would post a link to the playstation message boards, but i am at work and the site is blocked here...its not to hard to find with google tho... basically, playstation 2 has a *huge* problem with the laser unit actually scratching the disc (the evil circular scratches too, not the easy-to-fix straight ones), especially if you stand up the unit. other problems involve the laser unit becoming "decalibrated" and unable to read discs until fixed, but that doesnt cause scratches. after buying gran turismo 3 for the second time, i have started making backups of all of my games and using those instead of my originals as it seems that sony has somehow gotten away with engineering a product that will eventually destroy your games. maybe that last part isnt true, but im a paranoid freak about these things.
ill bet the space taken up on mail servers is pretty significant, tho. most spam ive seen has ~100Kb html files attached. multiply that by the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of recipients *per mail* and you end up with a lot of wasted hard drive space somewhere out there...
"the PlayStation 3 will thus be able to use its broadband Internet connection to reach across the Internet and draw additional computing power from idle processors."
what happens during peak hours? framerates drop? i hope that games written for ps3 wont be made to DEPEND on that extra computing power, because it seems to me that it wont always be there. and it seems kind of silly to think that a single-player experience could depend on weather or not the network is busy. but maybe im just not understanding correctly
well, i could be a little off on prices since this all happened a couple of years ago (which means the car was even younger), but i know that the final cost was going to be well over 2k...needless to say, i downgraded to a very cost-efficient and low maintenence 4-60 air conditioning system...heh
its eight years old, and it just recently broke 75k miles... granted, its not new, but i would hardly say its out of its expected life usage. i have had to deal with several minor freon leaks over the years, and now the compressor itself leaks (im not very experienced with air conditioners, but im guessing that this is comparable to the pump unit in a water-cooled system) which will cost a couple thousand *in labor alone* to fix. anyway, my point isnt my car, its just to show that these things do happen, and one can expect a leak to happen at least once with a water-cooled system. i just wonder exactly how much damage such a leak could do.
1. my car air conditioning has a leak so bad that it would cost more than the car to fix it...these things do actually happen
2. if i understand correctly, the pump is behind the lcd. (obviously) the processor will be down under the keyboard...meaning the hose will be bending at the hinge for the screen (very often) tell me how thats not going to cause problems with the hose...
i agree this only introduces more potential (and serious) problems to an already *very* disaster-prone type of system i would imagine that since everything is packed so tightly together inside of one of these things that even a drip of water would cause catastrophic problems
does this include cell phones? i would think not, but if anyone knows for sure, please let me (us) know. if anything, this is the reason i needed to finally drop my landlines and get one of those spiffy new deals with voicestream or cingular or others (ahhh, theres actually COMPETITION in the wireless market!) oh and for you dsl users, if you get (tv) cable, theyll usually give you a great deal on internet access too =)
ok, i might not be speaking for everyone on this one, but selling out, to me, is NOT just the act of a music group getting noticed. theres no problem with that at all...its when they change what they do to get noticed (i.e. change their music to sound like EVERY OTHER GODDAMN POPULAR GROUP OUT THERE...*ahem*....sorry bout that...). its not being on MTV that makes you a sellout, its what you (maybe) did to GET on MTV that makes you one. if you have something original to bring to the masses then great, congrats! but, if youre one of the countless others out there who has the mentality "gee, britney-moore-backstreet-sync makes lots of money, lets sound just like them and get in on the action!", then you, sir, are a sellout!
wait a minute......wait......nope, no answer next time youre talking to god, tell him i have a lot to get off of my chest. ok? "in any decently run universe, this guy would have been out on his almighty ass long ago!"

oh yeah, and as for the story that inspired all these comments: what did you expect? organized religion has been doing this for years...
