How many G's was the rocket subjected to during the launch?
What was the weight of the payload? (i.e. the combined weight of the video cameras). Can we include a small mouse astronaut on the next flight, if we substitute the 2 video cameras with one smaller one?
Would it be possible to mount a second stage on top of the exisiting rocket, say a small Estes model, and launch that from 120,000 feet?
They don't really seem to know what they want. Do they have a list of demands? I haven't seen one.
Even though these guys seem to be mostly young liberals, they actually have a lot in common with the Tea Party people -- ordinary folks (mostly lower middle class) fueled by rising populism against what they perceive to be injustices by [large corporations/banks/Big Government].
TARP money was given to big banks and other entities deemed "too big to fail" by.... the most liberal president this country has seen since LBJ... go figure. And AFAIK, both the current protesters and the Tea Party people oppose the Obama bailouts/sweetheart deals for GoldmanSachs/Solyndra/etc... maybe they should just join up.
Thanks d3deville for the kick-ass rocket video. Double thanks for leaving the audio track blissfully free of crappy pop/rock/punk/rave background music that infests so many Youtube airplane/rocket videos.
Although personally I think if you had added the soundtrack from The Right Stuff movie (orchestral piece from end of the movie during Gordo Cooper's launch), it would've made your excellent video even more awesome, I suspect that people who do not share my tastes in music might have been put off.
had a lot of problems recognizing John Malkovich who was trying to assasinate Obama because he was wearing a clever disguise. This technology could've helped Clint.
according to Bob Lazar, the aliens already have this. Alien spacecraft (currently on loan to the U.S. government) generate heat from an antimatter annihilation, and convert the heat directly into electricity using a near-100% efficient thermoelectric generator. No steam involved. Maybe graphene is!
The firehose submissions and peer review and all that stuff isn't working out too great. Analogy would be HP, where they test the wind, do consumer opion surveys, commitee meetings, just to decide what to do.
What slashdot really needs to do is get Steve Jobs (or an equivalent) with a clear vision and just do one thing, and do it with excellence. Be Apple, not HP.
Thanks for the explanation of what a rocket is. Since you seem to know about them, think about it for a second. Radioactive particles are heavy and therefore make lousy rocket propellant. Hydrogen, being light, makes the best rocket propellent. And that's what nuclear rockets use. They heat hydrogen using a nuclear reactor and thrust it out the back. Radioactive material are not expelled as propellant unless something goes wrong.
If you still don't t believe me, you can just google for "nuclear rocket"
Back then, we didn't molly-coddle everyone and give medals to everyone for participation. We rewarded only the winners, the brave, and left the rest in the dust.
Then liberals (note the lower case useage please) took over the schooling systems and have been doing their damnedest to make everything "fair", and as such, we have a generation afraid to take risks, expect to be rewarded for being mediocre, and generally a failure, yet have a massive ego issue. It's not wonder we are where we are these days.
This is the most insightful thing I've read on Slashdot in weeks. But you said baad things about liberals. Prepare to be modded down to -1
the world was doing just fine without these "investment banks" gambling with billions of your money while dreaming up drivel like "mortgage-backed security derivatives"
I'd shut them all down and put the CEO and CFO and the rest of the O's, all of them, in prison.
they never really had a Thomas Jefferson or George Washington or Ben Franklin or that "Give me liberty of give me death" guy, afaik
United States came as far as it did and became as great it is/was largely due to the heritage of the magnificent Founders. Although the recent leadership of Dubya/Cheney/Billary/Obama have been doing their damned hardest to erase all traces of their legacy....
so you, a computer nerd posting as AC on slashdot, know more about thermodynamics and engineering than Lockheed and Northrop engineers, right? I mean, the heat dispersal systems on the B-2 stealth bomber are all for nothing, because you've heard about conservation of energy and obviously you know more than anyone.
Wait, no, I think it's the other way around... the people with Ph.D's in physics and engineering and decades of experience as defense contractors know more about shit like this than some computer game-playing nerd eating ramen his mother's basement.
Odds are very good actually. He will be sitting inside a impenetrable maximum security cell for a long time to come, and no doubt be given good medical care from prison doctors.
I got all excited seeing the title, thinking this was going to be something about space exploration and Redstone rockets or something of this nature. Turns out, it's about a freakin cellphone game.... what a gyp
I have guppies in my aquarium, they give birth to live babies (they don't lay eggs). And theoretically dinosaurs are more evolved/advanced than mere fish, so it shouldn't be a surprise at all that some of them are livebearers.
that's what i thought it said...... MS going all street fighter
said the rim founder guy
liquid crystal on silicon -- didnt they try this TV chip awhile back too and fail?
come to think of it, Apple and Google also tried TV and failed
maybe computer companies should just stick to making computers and leave TV to Sony and Samsung

But they're not the equivalent of the Arab Spring, because they have no solution.
Perhaps they should adopt a solution similar to the Arab Spring people (Mubarak must go):
OBAMA MUST GO, AND ALL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS WITH HIM. Every single one.
That would actually be a good start.

Wouldn't nuclear rockets leave a lot of radioactive waste in their wake?
Nope. And btw did you know that nuclear ships such as U.S.S. Nimitz don't actually leave a trail of radioactive waste in their wake?

it's overrated anyway
Just make your own music or learn to play Mozart piano concertos or something
eom

all those problems you mentioned, comrade Lenin has already addressed. Please go see him.
yeah but there's a big latency so WOW is gonna lag like hell...
reminds me of my youth, when throwing your opponent in Street Fighter 2 would elicit cries of "CHEAP SHIT!"
You are computer has a volume control?
