I have to respectfully disagree with you. While it may be true for *some* situations, CRT resolution when talking about televisions lags dramatically behind that of LCD, DLP and Plasma. The only place CRT has a significant advantage over LCD in resolution are computer screens, although I have a feeling LCD will be catching up to that as well here in the near future... Television CRTs are still only getting MAX 720i resolution, while LCD televisions are up to 1080p. Lets compare apples to apples here please.
So if this is true, why does my COA on my laptop specifically state "Proof of License" directly above where it reads "Certificate of Authenticity"? Is Microsoft lying about that now? Cuz if they are, and I get screwed for not having proof of license, they're gonna be hearing from me about it.
Sure, if replicating my car would cause the original to be destroyed, that would be a problem, quite obviously; and if that were the case, you wouldn't have much of a replicator, since there's still only one copy of the car in working order. Anyone with at least 2 brain cells can see that. However, the situation you propose is completely unrelated to the question at hand, since copying a file on the computer does not degrade the original, and if done correctly, does not cause any degredation in the copy either.
Thank you sir, for explaining what this all means in plain english. Not all of us were math majors, but we do still like to understand what's goin on in the world. Cheers!
Simple: by requiring all students to have the same model of laptop, application compatibility (at least for the "core" applications, Photoshop etc in this case) is pretty much guaranteed. Plus, it cuts down on the number of different platforms the school's tech support has to deal with. My college required all incoming freshmen to participate in what they called the "technology program", which was basically a mandatory laptop program. Most people were grateful that the school made the decision of what kind of laptop they were going to have for them. There were a very small number of upset parents, much less than you'd think -- I know because I worked at registration for 3 years for new students, and each year I could count the number of families that complained about having already bought Johnny or Sally a new laptop for high school on one hand, and my school is a highly regarded engineering school where you'd think most kids already have laptops, yet most don't.
F*** the political correctness BS. That's probably the single biggest reason America is declining as much as it is today. If people would replace their PC attitude with some good old fashioned common sense (and the occasional tar-and-feathering of idiots who don't use common sense), this world would be a much better place.
If you actually ask Cingular about this, they'll tell you you can re-purchase the ringtone and then dispute the charge after you download it -- effectively giving it back to you for free. A pain in the ass workaround, and huge potential for abuse, sure...but that's the best they'll do for you.
and that I have yet to see one with decent capacity (outside of carrying around a pocket full of CF cards).
Why carry a pocket full of CF cards, when you can get a 6 gig CF microdrive and have more capacity than an Ipod mini? My ipaq can handle a microdrive AND an SD card simultaneously, so theoretically I could have 7 gigs of music and/or movies on my PDA. That is plenty of multimedia entertainment for the average person, and while the pricetag is slightly higher than an ipod mini, it is more than made up for in the video playback along with the aforementioned wifi and telephony capabilities.
....but if you don't get them computers they can afford (IE, very cheap and/or free), then they will never be able to DEVELOP the expertise to use them. Its all circular - you can't learn to use something you don't have access to, and you can't use something that you've never learned how to use.
Take a look at the Handyboard line of projects. My college actually uses one of them as the basis for a class called car in a box. The one we use is a little price - about $100 for the whole kit, but that includes the PC board, components, servos for wheels, and the M68HC11 processor. Its a decent kit, and is a good intro to embedded systems as well:

Doubt the fluorescents would be better here... AC is 60 Hz, 120 Volts here, not the other way around.
As to the original question, I have always run my monitors at 60 Hz with no problems at all. I can't see flicker higher than about 45 Hz or so.
Gerber is an excellent alternative to Leatherman. Very similar features, plus the pliers slide out, rather than having to flip the handles around like the Leatherman tools.
Hey Billy Boy....there's a reason most people go to college. It's so we can finish learning what we need to know to survive.

Too bad the links seem to be broken to this site. Someone got another link that works?

Cash maybe, but don't you know the devil owns all the lawyers?
