Nah. We will just claim that some of Moore's friends who outlived him cooked up this scheme to make him look good. PDFs can be easily faked after all.

In fact a few generations after Moore is dead, a group of people will say the Moore never existed.

"Simply a group of folks with too much time on their hands concoted the whole thing. You see, the geeks needed a leader to rally around. So they invented Moore (and that Linus guy too... archeolgical digs found he was really a fictional cartoon character created by a Schultz guy). The cult grew on this place called Slashdot (which more research showed to be full of other fictional characters too).

"Eventually, people bought into this, and it got taken for granted that Moore and Linus really existed. The lack of the original documents is the smoking gun.

As products mature, it becomes more and more difficult to diferentiate yourself from your competitors. That translates to lower profit margins. IBM is simply recognizing that. If an agency is working with sensitive information, why is ANY information stored on individual PCs? Information like that should be stored centrally, so access to the information can be audited easily. And if it is so important, do you really want to be in the game of keeping it where it can be lost if a PC goes down?

I work in the banking industry. We do not allow any information to reside on the individual PC level. I maintain the PCs... I don't bother to ask if you have personal info when it is time to replace the PC... if you do, you are violating company policy and would be written up.

Back to somewhat on topic: By not caring what is "cool", you can very often get superior products for a cheaper price. And when you are a "pay cash" kind of person, you get even better deals. So, while I do not understand the need to be "cool" based on what I drive, I do use it to my advantage. Less money spent = less hours worked...

Commercials used to be more informative, that's for sure. Now commercials are designed to elicit emotions more than the brain. I'm not too old (early 30's)... but I had to do a small research project where I was looking at old 50's television. The commercials were plain bad from a cinemographic point of view, but I actually got facts about the product, not "you need this to look cool, and if you don't you are a loser that will be made fun of by all of your coworkers and neighbors".

But, that is just my two cents :)

This bonch is a weird guy. Not entirely sure I even like him. However, I've seen him getting mod attacked for no legitimate reason. Some insightful posts that I may disagree with are getting modded troll.

I love free speech. I don't mind if someone disagrees with me. I don't mind if someone says things that I find totally wrong. Yet, obviously there is at least one person with mod points who has taken it on themselves to mod bonch into oblivion. You don't have to take my word for it.... take a look at the guy's posting history. Is he strange? Probably. Is he a troll? Definitely not.

What to do about it? If you are in M2 land, take your responsiblity seriously. If you seee a troll, and it isn't a clear troll, M2 the moderator down. If you have any mod points, help him to keep his head above water till the mods responsible get corrected by the system. The system only works when a majority of the people are fair, and not just out to push an agenda.

And keep an eye on me... I have a feeling that I will be getting followed a while too :)

The post I replied to refers to it as "ripping off". Therefore, the author acknowledges that it is theft, even if you disagree. Therefore, he is a thief by his own admission, not by my accusation.

In my experience, if a person will steal from someone, he will steal from me as well. Once you step over lines in some situations, it becomes easier to cross over them in others.

Take a look at some "good" folks, like Martin Luther King, who engaged in multiple affairs, Bill Clinton who did the same, or Richard Nixon (if you are interested, take a look at the stuff the Kennedy's did that helped push him over the edge).

So, I stand behind my statement. I did not make it about anyone but the original poster, so, no, I don't think I overgeneralized.
