    Cisco engineers. When I worked there for a while, the engineers would argue over the hardware specs like PC enthusiasts. Small dicks with big paychecks compensating for something.

    It's true for most Fortune 500 companies, depending on dysfunctional the I.T. department is. Google was an exception, as I had to haul ass to keep up with the constant change.

    When I was a lead video game tester, I worked 40 hours straight before a code release meeting and went home to sleep for three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). My boss was livid that I wasn't at work at 9:00AM on Friday, as Sony could reject the submission and I wouldn't be around to lead the follow up. I blew him off. Sony wouldn't respond for another three business days. All was forgiven when Sony accepted the submission five business days later, even though they did catch the rare crash bug that developer said they would never catch.

    As an I.T. Support Contractor for the last ten years, my contracts specifically prohibits me from working more than 40 hours and/or outside normal business hours.

    ID Software's RAGE refused to run on my 7970, a known issue between the video game and video card. I got a NVidia 720 video card and the game worked. I'm extremely reluctant to go back to AMD after that.

    Even the President was briefed that ISIS was "contained" and "under control" in Iraq and Syria, and he reported as much on national television days before the attack.

    FTFY - If you're going to quote the president, quote the whole thing. Too many people run off at the mouth with half a quote that lacks any context. While ISIS is "contained" and "under control" in Iraq and Syria, it doesn't prevent the offshoot terrorists from launching attacks in non-combat zones far removed from the main battlefield.

    According to the NYT, a "developing story" is subject to changes when it appears on the website and before it appears in print. They got caught several times for posting sensational stories about Hillary Clinton that they had to walk back in subsequent changes to the website article that never appeared in the print article. Online articles are temporal, print articles are permanent.

    I didn't hate working in a restaurant, just the minimum wage pay. Three years as a backup cook in a hot kitchen gave me the endurance I would later need in my technical career. As a project lead I worked 40 hours straight without sleep and 10-hour days for 14, 21 or 28 days at a time.

    Comment by someone who never worked in a commercial kitchen. We had emergency lights to dimly illuminate our work areas for an hour, and gas-powered burners and steam tables to keep the food warm. A fully loaded line can serve food for 30 minutes. If power wasn't restored in 30 minutes, the restaurant would shut down.

    California has a different set of rules about college enrollment via the community college system.

    In California, you only need to be 18 years or older to attend a community college. A high school diploma is not required, though you may have to take remedial courses offered by the college and some majors, such as engineering, may require a GED before you can transfer to a four-year university

    The only job I ever got fired for was punching the boss's grandson because he was an idiot on the job. I'm not going to lie to get a job and then get fired for that.

    The Great Recession ended in 2009 and the economy has been recovering since then. The illegals went home and they're not coming back.

    They were the lucky one who won the lottery and everyone else was screwed. It's the American way.

    My late father complained for years that kids don't know how to make change. When I worked in a restaurant as a backup cook after college, we had a three-hour power blackout that took down the ordering terminals and none of the wait staff could make change or write out an order slip. Management closed down the restaurant after 30 minutes.
