Are you familiar with Casey Neistat? He uses drones extensively in his videos for B-roll shots. In fact, he's under investigation by the FAA for flying his drones in NYC. DJI sent him a pre-production model months before it got release to the public.
If they all fell out of the sky I think DJI would have caught the bug in pre-production.
I think Casey Neistat would have discovered it with the pre-production model first. He tends to fly his drones out over the water. I think he had a video of fishing his Phantom drone out of the surf for whatever reason.
Casey Neistat did a video review of the DJI Spark drone. He didn't mention having a problems with the Spark falling out of the sky. Of course, he had a pre-production model first and did a review of the production version shortly after he got it.
Like all great works of art... you should read the book first.
I haven't read the book which has a different plot angle than the movie (i.e., AI as an intruder versus AI as an appliance). The movie better fits the 1970's suburbia reality and marks a turning point when that AIs would become dangerous (see Saturn 3 and Terminator).
If you want to see the future of Facebook in your home, watch "Demon Seed" about an AI that takes over the scientist's home and impregnates the housewife. You may come home one day to find Mark Zuckerburg's offspring waiting for you.
