I turned off background refresh on 90% of the apps that I use on my iPhone 6s to conserve bandwidth (2GB monthly cap) and battery life. Very few apps need real time updates. The rest can wait for updates until I'm ready to deal with them on my home wireless network.
My work is putting Windows 10 into production in September, which is surprising since Windows 8 never made it out testing. With newer hardware only being supported by Windows 10, the powers to be decided to leap into the unknown. That's job security on my end since something will inevitably go wrong.
If I could find it in my junk box, I would proudly wear an 80186 processor that I pulled from an IBM Token Ring card. Everyone knows about the 8086 and the 80286, but 80186 and the Tandy 2000 was long forgotten.
