  1. Anybody with about 3 days of IT experience should be able to determine whether or not a keyboard is broken.

Including a keyboard that mostly works except when it doesn't? Intermittent failures are hard to troubleshoot.

Yes, he probably smashed the keyboard on your desk only because he couldn't legally smash it over your head for being a time-wasting moron.

Really? I thought he was just being an asshole.

    What a dumb lesson.

No, a practical lesson. When you have a PC with a intermittent failure, you can wait for it to fail or break it to request reimaging.

  2. 1) Paid for 4K camera that you do not need
    2) Waste time downscaling to 1080p
    3) Lost all the advantage of images in larger scale
    4) Waste time upscaling

Linus Tech Tips uses this workflow for their 4K cameras (see video). That was two years ago. They now have 8K RED cameras ($140K each) but probably still use the same workflow.

Depends on how you edit your video. Casey Neistat typically spends eight hours editing his videos and most of his videos are in the 10 to 15 minute range. Of course, he is a professional filmmaker.

  4. What kind of nonsense is that? Do you understand how video compression works? Take a 4K picture, compress it to a 10KB JPEG and then "upconvert it" to 4K again, it will look like shit.

Some video editors will take 4K (or higher) video, downscale to 1080p for editing, and then upscale to 4K. Although 4K video is becoming common, not everyone has a computer that can handle a 4K workflow.

I got news for Hollywood... I usually pay $5 to $10 for a HD movie on iTunes. Since none of my PC monitors are 4K, and I don't have an Apple box for my 4K TV, I'm not interested in paying extra 4K video. Apple will eventually discount the 4K movie to $5 to $10 anyway.

You can thank Youtube for that, since they pay more for videos over 10 minutes.

IIRC, The average watch time on YouTube is 2.5 minutes. YouTube wants people to stay on their website for longer periods of time. If a video can entice people to watch longer than the average time, the algorithm will reward creators for doing that.

You obviously have never worked with the first implementations of USB under Windows, especially when it came to video game controllers. ISA worked fine if you had your jumper settings for the each card documented.

  14. I know that supervisor very well. He told me that he was just mad because you were trying to plug a ps/2 keyboard into the USB port.

That would be a problem since "plug-and-pray" USB wouldn't become widely available until several years after that incident.

  15. That last part of your post made me very happy. There's a time when you just have to go "excuse me, can I see that for a second?" SMASH "There ya go."

One time I handed a keyboard to a supervisor and told him that I thought it was broken. He took the keyboard, slammed it against my desk three times, scattering key caps all over the place, and then handed back the obviously broken without a doubt keyboard.
