the FCC is requiring universities to upgrade their online systems
Why doesnt the FCC downgrade their online systems? That way everybody will be nice and compatible again, and I can continue my download of The 40 Year Old Virgin torrent. Maybe a little pr0n too while I'm at it...
Perhaps the US government in their infinite wisdom could devise some plan whereas they go about renetworking the entire internet through the FBI? After all, the US does own the world. Don't we?
its about time google added rss feeds. yahoo has had it for a while, so has metarss, newsburst and others. personally, i prefer live bookmarks in firefox. no ads and you dont have to go to any site first.
slashdot sucks!! screw you all!!
you guys gonna delete my comment now?
but seriously, how closed minded can you get? its the internet; people have the right to say what they want. if you dont want those kind of things there, then don't allow commenting at all!
I don't know about you, but a quick search on google for the word "tiger" reveals that tigerdirect shows up above apple's site. Why are they suing again? They should go after 5tigers.org instead. There page shows up a whole 80 pixels above tigerdirect. This is such an outrage, us humans cannot let this happen!!
yet another form of birth control
but seriously, who comes up with this stuff? "Hey I have an idea! Lets have a bunch of guys type up some big report and then take a sperm sample!" Pretty soon we'll be testing heated car seats.
no matter how you look at it, there is no foolproof protection scheme. take biometrics and fingerprinting and all that good stuff for example. all people will need is one drop of blood or a piece of your hair to gain access. and even if they dont, hackers will always find some way to get around it. if you're sending info over the internet, all they have to do is hook up a packet sniffer and capture the relevant packets and resend them when necesary. in my opinion, well-thought out passwords with hashes offer the best current protection. while its easier to replicate those, its very inexpensive and any good OS can provide safegaurds to make it extremely difficult to access. besides, anybody can steal a smartcard, but can anybody steal something stored in your head?
Pehaps, but that might not always be the case. The other day,/. had an article on that old computer running the new Mac OS. It took about a week to get through some of the boot process, but it still worked fine. The only real way to test would be to run the new cluster and the older system with the same data and see what data is outputted. If they are the same, then new software should be written or the weather models need slight fine-tuning. If the results are different, then you would be correct, and the problem would be limited by the resources available to the computer. But speed doesn't necesarily always guarantee accuracy.
Too bad its not running windows. They could set a world record for fastest windows crash after install. Mine's only a few minutes, image twenty 512 systems!
People are upset with camera phones and video phones because they are everywhere and offer little privacy to people. Miniature cameras are going to cause more problems than they will solve, unless new laws are passed and enforcement of new and current laws becomes more strict. Anybody could easily place one of these devices in countless places and therefore have access to private information and video of you that you might not want them to have.
Maybe its me, but many people seem to like the number 4. Perhaps its because lots of people are always showing others that they can count to 4 on their fingers in binary.
you know theres something wrong when you cant figure out how to get the plane off the ground in MS Flight Simulator on a nice perfect sunny day, but some pieces of a dead rat's brain can execute complicated manuevors in a hurricane.
i still dont understand how the computer and the brain cells interacted. how did they convert the data from the software into a language the cells understand? and how the hell did they know they were flying the plane and how winds and air resistance and all that affected the plane? im so incredibly confused. but the idea sounds pretty crazy, id love to see it for myself
Did I say "FBI"? I meant FCC. They're pretty much the same anyways.

microphones seem to be a good idea in detecting when the noise becomes too loud, but how does a microphone tell you whos making all the noise?

Interestingly enough, AMD seems to be hiring in the UK: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/Careers/0,,51_8 2,00.html

If the same software is used, its not going to make weather predictions more accurate. Its just going to give them the wrong answer, faster.

No, it would mean (stress * time)/work = 1
:) Have a nice day.
I think YOU FAIL IT.
Its not like as soon as the power goes out your house instantly freezes.

my friend and i came up with this one the other day: stress = work / time
