This boy in a basement have defeated plenty of security measures from large corps who have spent hundreds of millions to protect their technology. Ever heard of a bunch billionaires who started from their basement/garage ?

  2. RSA's SecureID on Kim Dotcom Wants Money From Google, Twitter For 2-Factor Authentication · · Score: 1

I'm pretty sure SecureID uses 2-factor authentication before Kim's patent. Where you enter the password, a token is generated and you have to enter the key before access is granted.
I guess the different maybe the token is automatically generated every min instead of being transmitted to to a secondary device. If his patent is validated in court, it's worth a lot more than the 50mil he asked.

My POC in Arin is outdated and the IP records still point to me. Can't find the information in arin on how to reclaim it.

  5. It's about time ... on Microsoft to Get Tough on License Dodgers · · Score: 2, Funny

I know a few small businesses that abuse the MS license to make PROFIT and I think it's about time that MS does a crackdown on those businesses.
They should put more effort into cracking down those real business abusers who are making profit on the back of MS than the stupid broken WGA which annoys lots of innocent home users.

  6. Re:Jailing spammers on Virginia Spammers Go To Jail, And Pay For It · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's a good deterence for future spammers to know that they will end up in jail if they break the laws. There're hundreds millions of dollars spent already on spam fighting and the fight will continue until we find a solution to this problem.
So you are telling that the recipient of the mass mail should bear the cost, while the spammers can do it with impunity and get away with it ? Or simply take the monetary damage as a cost of doing business.
This is a great precedence and hopefully a few more spammers will end up in jail and getting their asses ramped so they can think a bit before joining the venture. I'm all for jailing them and take all theirs assets away to fund more spam fighting initiatives.

  7. How much ? on Mozilla Raking in Millions? · · Score: 5, Interesting

Lets do some basic math and see how the numbers add up.

    - Of the 100 million downloads lets say 20% are daily/active users -> 20 2illion users.
    - Of the 20 million daily users, lets says 20% do make at least 1 search query. -> 4 million queries/day.
    - If google pays around 0.02c a query. They get 80k/day x 30 days = 3.2Mil x 12 months =~ 38 Mil right there. A conservative number ... but still A LOT MONEY !!

I'm tired and fed up with all the spam I received. Is it a moral way to fight it ? Absolutely not !

Effective ? Perhaps, if they got enough fed up users who are willing to fight back. There is no near term solutions, nor law that will keep those spammers away.

Until there is perfect solution to put those spammers where they belong, I'd say YES to cause them as much troubles as they've caused the rest of the world with their spam.

  10. MS has a good quality CODEC. on Live Streaming Video? · · Score: 1

I work for a company doing movies streaming over the net, after looking at a few solutions. We've found MS has the best CODEC out at the bitrate (800k). With their new WM8 codec, you could get near video quality MPEG-4 at 500kbits. They said it's near DVD, but I've found it's nowhere close to that. But still very impressive. You could see some sample of the 300kpbs CODEC at http://www.intertainer.com and compare it to QuickTime or Real. It's by far the best solution for the time being. I don't like MS either, but have to accept that they do have some good products, WM is one of them.
