No, you will have to buy the Microsoft Certified Soundcard Quality Service (c) license, that allows you to mute the sound, so it wont check for a plugged in sound device through a suparsekret windows API :(

Seems the least of our worries, we'll just await the first hack that makes sure the sample doesnt play.

why do they need to pick up the ball ? Longhorn will likely have a the majority percentage of used choice OS. They managed to do it with all their OS's, regardless of the critique. It wont change, just be glad your firefox's has a chance to run on it. :) What you describe is ms's way of handling and it has always been successful with it, after all, do they have not the biggest piece of the cake untill now ? :) MS is doing well, and their assimilation is successful. Like it or not.

Why ? It would need a database which includes that person's face in a pretty high resolution to begin with. This technology, even if it seems promising, is quite overhyped. Assembling a database of street corner pictures in different angles all over the world (disregarding urban evolution and day/night status.. ..yes, there is quite a difference...) is a never-ending cycle which seems unfeasible. Unfeasible in many ways. Jokes aside, (I assume your post aims to be sounding funny) i am pretty convinced that besides the fact that the topological data that has to be assembled and gathered (we are talking pictures here, not GPS input) can not be achieved in a way that a photo-search engine can be even remotely effective, the sheer idea that people can be identified by any picture to be just ludicrous and best kept to cyberpunk-alike scenario's. The slashdot privacy-police surely will have a field day with this opinion. I hereby call this project "Duke Nukem Forever 2: the photogenic farce" cant wait till 2049... smiling faces now... -ig88

So, the "mighty" owner of suprnova closed his website.
    Very nice.

    He advocates this new technology.

Who said the MPAA/RIAA did not stuff him some "funds" to provide the people some nice software
(ie: adware) that cleanly informs those nice
associations with the ip address of every peer/seeder. Think about it.

who did say the new software does not harvest ip
addresses and nicely hands em over to some place
    accessible to the MPAA/RIAA ?

I do not know about you, but I am convinced some
donated funds from MPAA/RIAA could change the mind
of any site owner to join the " side"
