I've never given up part of myself for a relationship... and I never would. If you need to, you're not a very good match with your significant other and the solution is to change who your SO is, not change yourself.
The problem was your wife, not your job. I would never marry a guy who would call me at work at 5:30 and demand that I come home. If someone is going to try to make you change your life for them, the answer is 'run' not 'marriage'.

Copying code and learning from it are very different things, and it'd be damn hard to prove the latter if done well.
