One game I forgot to add to that list: Half-Life 2. I felt like I literally was Gordon Freman in that game - it was spectacular. I played one bit for nearly five hours straight... it was crazy.
"Off the top of my head, one of the first games that really showed a distinct sense of art direction and style in this generation of games was Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus."? I just do not know what this guy is smoking... has he played Amplitude, Battle for Middle-Earth, Splinter Cell, DDR:Extreme... the list really does go on and on... I mean seriously... did he just forget about Rez?
I wouldn't say that. I'd say that developers are trying to create a more immersive world, and by doing that, they have to eliminate other parts that traditionally make up a character.
In HL2, I really did feel like I was Gordon Freeman, fighting for the survival of human kind. I didn't feel like I was my self because of the fact that your character interacts with other characters in a way that you can't affect, but still felt completely natural.
I have a feeling that the mascot is changing - before about 2000, the mascot game, such as Mario, everyone had. Other posts have mentioned Jax & Daxter as a big time mascot, which is not so because not everyone has that game. I think mascots are changing to that like Master Chief. If you look at the game libraries of all XboX owners, I'm guessing more than 75% have that game. For PC gamers, that is Hl1, PS2 is probably J&D, but I dunno, and for Gamecube owners it seems animal crossing or pikmen are really popular.
Thats the problem. It really doesn't seem to be my net connection OR my steam install. I think i've said that i've talked to my tech people. It might be possible that its my steam install... but It hadn't happened before Steam activated HL2. So... I dunno.
Well you see... the only way I can get my ping down to a playable level (for local servers only) is to set my rate, which is what I think your talking about, to the preset of a 14.4 k modem. Its the only thing that seems to help at all
Done that. Even when doing nothing, I get terrible ping with steam. The moment I start querying servers, steam takes up all my bandwidth and everything slows. So long as i'm not refreshing servers, everything works exactly as it should.
No, I meant that ever since I installed HL2 (even after restarting it many times) all Hl1 mods, HL1, and CS:S have been lagging really badly (network lag, not video lag). Before HL2, I got decent, playable pings to servers, 90-160. Now all of my VALVe games and mods are completely unuseable
I'm surprised valve hasn't even recognized the fact that many (much closer to 5% than the stuttering bug) people are having problems playing all steam games. Ever since I installed HL2, All of my games have started to lag horribly, with a ping of 200-2000
... I've heard that somewhere beforee.... (cough) nintendo 64 (cough)
Is a joke. Seriously. Its managed by an anti-christian group as a joke. Don't take anything seriously.

Indeed, that reply was very troll-y of me. I was just stating the fact that before HL2, no lag, after much lag.
