Yeah, as someone who is about acquire a gently used (when it fell of the truck, it didn't hit the floor) Sun-420R, suddenly I wasn't all that thrilled with my options. Having lived thru it with an old Cobalt Qube 2, I'll figure something out, but gentoo was about all that looked like it wasn't going to be an exercise in futility.
Since the above is for Mac only, on the linux side of the house lives Driftnet.
We have one guy in our office that watches porn for an hour twice daily - at 11 & 4. We all gather around the machine running driftnet, fire up ethereal & etherape on another, and watch along. It is unofficially known as the "Hour of Power Pr0n".
As far as time limit, there needs to be one. Just as the Civ series couldn't go on forever (no new technology changes gameplay fundamentally and for the worse), Pirates has to end too after a certain ammount of time. Or else, your character will be forced to become a video pirate. Arr..?
Not necessarily: Pirates are alive and committing acts of piracy on the high seas even today.
Heheh. I can see your point, but I was referring more to 'ignore the year, let me play until I get sick of playing'. But really - if I could capture an iron-clad steam-powered destroyer with the fleet I'd likely have built up by that time, I'd keep on playing *with* the i-c s-p destroyer in my fleet.
games that only play for a certain time period - ie - you have 500 turns to do as much as you can. Let me play for as long as I want, or at least give me the option to do so.
I would have much rather seen Cutthroats, Terror on the High Seas from Eidos get an update.
Oh well, since it's piratical, I'll probably get it anyways, but I already have a feeling I'm not going to like it.:/
Watch how the US Govt handles draft, induction, training and deployment this time. You'll see companies created that go through boot together, post recruit train together, deploy together, what's left of them will get discharged together and the company disbanded. No more singles in, singles out. This is much more like WWII than Korea or Vietnam.
This was going on in the 80's. I want to say it was called Echelon recruitment, but it's been 15 years and a lot of beers since.
Google turns up nothing relevant, since the Echelon/. knows and loves is that big brother type, but I *do* remember whole companies being trained and kept together post-basic for the life of their contracts.
Frankly, I think that women should either face the same possibility of a draft that men do, or be faced with losing the ability to vote. If a woman wants be an 1800s-style protected housewife instead of a full member of society, fine, but neither should she be accorded the privileges of said member of society.
Amen.
I'm sure this will get modded to troll or flamebait, but I agree with you 100%.
I'm always tempted to tell those women that rail about how equal they should be: "You've come a long way baby! Didja sign up for the draft? No? Then shut it. Yeah yeah, you can do anything I can do, but you don't have to die to do it."
In the late 80's, the average life of a Dragon gunner (sort of like a TOW) on the battlefield was 7 seconds. Unfortunately, it took 9 seconds to hit the target on average.
At least that's what they told me right before I was volunteered to tote that son-of-a-bitch on my back.
It'll also sync with evolution via gpilotd. I *heart* my Treo600. In addition: SSH2 client, AIM/MSN/Yahoo client, mp3 player, along with email & the web? I don't have to carry a laptop anymore!!
Moscow - The Soviet Space Program has traced the problem back to the popular American geek website slashdot.org. Apparently, the American astronaut, Leroy Chiao, was a regular reader of slashdot, and finally snapped when every time he gave a command to the cosmonaut, Valery Tokarev, replied "In Soviet Russia.."

Spinrad mined media hype and manipulation to fine effect in his early novel, Bug Jack Barron. Now 18 years later, he has another go with this near future story of the conglomerate MUZIK's desire to substitute APs (artificial personalities) for its troublesome rock stars. Voxbox artist Sally Genaro and graphics whiz Bobby Rubin create a sensation called Red Jack, thanks to prodding from Glorianna O'Toole, "The Crazy Old Lady of Rock and Roll" and to the stimulation of the zap, a small electric device that mimics the effects of hallucinogens. What they don't anticipate is the co-opting of Jack's rebel stance by the Reality Liberation Front, an anarchist computer commune churning out programs to bilk money machines, fix tax records, etc.
"Integrated Technology Applications is a multimedia class meant to help the student apply computer technology to all areas of student life. "
One would think that collaboration and interfacing in real time would be acceptable - not punishable. Certainly chatting with other students could be considered part of student life.
I would say that of all the holiday parties I've ever gone to, I've never even seen a game played - unless you count rampant gossiping, overdrinking and womanizing a game.
What the other people in attendance do is their business.:)
Everything you think you know about the GPL is true. It is an evil, twisted devil-worshipper. It sacrifices kittens and babies, then dances naked, covered in their blood, around a bonfire, calling upon the great old ones to smite the blessed and raise the wicked to immortal supremacy on earth. Plus, your slut of a daughter gangbangs it and all the OSS/FSS friends on your dinner table, in exchange for crack cocaine. It hates puppies, flowers, apple pie, mom, and everything american, especially the president. But, most of all it hates you with a murderous passion you could barely understand with your limited intellect. Everything you feared about the GPL is true. Oh, and it knows where you live.

Ah, so glad to have served and cleared.
Then megacorp could sue spammer into oblivion.
Or more likely, megacorp fires it's mail administrators for being incompetent and goes on about it's business.
I can say with authority that we were already asked to do things that were beyond normal human demands.

And I wouldn't exactly call MRE's 'food' anyways, although some of them weren't bad as long as you had hot sauce.
I don't remember Michael Jackson being mentioned in /. headlines.

Didja not get a look at the original TIA logo?
Hah!

Great. So I buy a robot, and it's instantly a felon, just for playing a few mp3's.
