No one is calling these kids geniuses or super-geniuses, they are simply calling them gifted. And by gifted, they mean almost as smart as the average person was 100 years ago. So, by being labeled gifted, these kids may be lucky enough to get just a little bit less indoctrination of nationalistic claptrap and just a little bit more time learning how to memorize slightly deeper bullshit. Are they learning how to learn? Are they expanding their own personal ability to achieve? Not likely. If these parents think their kids are so freaking smart and don't want the schools lumping them with the booger-eating masses, then they should take them out of public school altogether.

Well, people do put modern engines in Model T's, have been since at least the late 1940's. They're called Hot Rods. I think it would be a more appropriate analogy to say its like putting a model T engine in a modern car, something only a nut would even attempt.
You know, the religious right controls the whole of America right now. From the presidency which they terrorized everyone into supporting to the judicial bench which will soon be completely stocked with yes men for the Bush dynasty (George, Jr., Jeb, Neil, etc...) They will run this country into the ground while lining their own pockets. ALong the way the seem to want to devolve the whole of the country, what they will do is only destroy the whole of their supporters. Life is poretty easy on Earth right now so everyone gets all cushy and forgets how to survive. THe Earth will be a much more difficult place to live in the coming years and large amounts of the population will be dead and forgotten. I figure if these people want to be backwards in Kansas, or Dover PA, or wherever, then freaking let them! Let them get what they deserve, let them retard their children even more. While the rest of us who know how to think evolve ourselves, these people will devolve to a useless state. They most certainly won't survive the coming energy crunch when large amounts of the current population can no longer feed itself easily and will have to get very creative to survive. They will prove THROUGH their ignorance and eventual death the very definition of evolution! It will take time, but the human mind will either evolve or completely shut down. Let these retards shut their minds down. I for one will be the first to thank them actually. Thank you for refusing to evolve, thank you for making your lesser, ignorant race even less able to compete with us advanced and obviously far more evolved huiman species. I am currently the manager of a band called Lecivius that is doing it all on their own, and we are structuring the band's financial interests exactly like a startup business. There are six of us, five band members and myself that are equal partners in the business. I am the producer, engineer, financier, art director, mixer, mastering engineer and label owner in addition to being the manager. I don't own any parts of the songs, but the record itself along with all its merchandising is being set up as its own company of which I am a 1/6 owner. The band owns their songs and collects royalties before the 'company' sees any money, then the company we collectively own decides what to do with profits. At least thats the plan.
It works like this: I put up money for a first pressing of the record. When the first copies are sold we first pay off the pressing cost, then collect enough for another pressing, and then take all remaining copies and give them away. Give them away to radio stations, people in line outside big shows, magazines that will do reviews, record stores as promos, etc. All along do shows to promote your name and the CD. The idea is to promote as much as possible before you are used to making any money. When you go to your second pressing thats when you really start to make some money because by that time you will have built a little following. Give away as many downloads as you can without fear. Live songs, B-Sides, even album tracks, just don't give away your whole record because then there is much less of an incentive for a purchase, but heck it could work. Then it will be like a disease, if you're a good band (we're one of the best unknown bands out there right now, no shit check the link. Lecivius) then people will pass your music around. I am going to do everything I can to encourage 'illegal sharing' of our music. I have even considered putting an empty space in the CD package for a CD-R copy so you can keep a backup with your CD. So that when you're out listening to your record (or your perfectly legal backup) that you can pass along the backup to someone who really likes it. I know when I get a CD-R from a friend and its something I really like I have to go buy it. Then I will pass on the backup CD-R to someone else. Be it for the art or the uncompressed tracks, or just so I can have a 'real' one, I buy the CD. And I'm not alone a lot of people do this. Even people listening to your music for free from a CD-R or download that never buys any of your music is great advertising, when you go play live they'll be right there with everyone who bought the CD. And if they really are a fan of yours eventually they'll respond to your generosity with their own one way or another. These new RIAA measures with FBI piracy logos, crippled CDs, suing fans: these things make people not want to give you any money, they want to rip you off when you're so openly hostile towards them. No instead embrace file swapping, its going to happen whether you support it ot not. By singing a different tune than the RIAA you'll have the fans wanting to give you everything they can for being brave enough to be honest. Oh, and it doesn't hurt to put a paypal donation link on your site next a to a bunch of free downloads, you'd be surprised how many people will toss you a few bucks.

Really, all the great music being made today, the incredible albums that change your life are underground. The people that know about them sometimes keep it to themselves rather than have something they love tarnished by suckcess. The climate in recorded music right now is splintering. Some people have gone more commercial to the point of writing music actually tageted for commercials. The next Nissan patchfinder song if you will, but there are also people going in the other direction, anti-commercial to the point of forcing you to listen to longer passages of deep developed music.
Wait and see what Tool and Nine Inch Nails come out with this year. Adrian Belew's new Record is supposedly kickass (if you can find it). For every shitty project that is based on greed, it makes the true artists, those who create from their boundless hearts not their unsustainable wallets. Great art comes from pain, those poor guys at the fringes will blow your mind if you just give them a chance and the established artists that are still driven by the right mechanisms will comtinue to top themselves.
