Perhaps in some distant, twisted future, those tracks and debris will be more than a mere historical site, but historic grounds much like we have on Earth today.
Imagine, thousands of years into the future as humanity has conquered space travel, a grandfather teaching his grandchildren about the early days of space, and how countries raced to the moon only to leave a few footprints on the surface for eternity and leave. The children will probably laugh and giggle, much as our children laugh and giggle at our stories of Noah's Ark and such.
I am bloody sick of the MMOGs as of late. I want some decent single player games that don't suck. I have enough FPS games to last until the draft of WWIII, where are the cool RPGs and innovative games?
I would consider playing an MMOG if it had a "single-ish" mode. I don't want to be disturbed by others, 90% of them are children anyway. Unfortuantely, they are necessary to support MMOGs as the primary clientelle.
Skimming that paper made me dislike MMOGs even more. Bravo, if that was the intent.

On that same topic, Azureus is also a quite capable BT client. Far better than the official Python client, especially from an ease-of-use GUI standpoint. Has the ease of use most of us want, but also those power-user style options if you need/want them.
Quite impressive, and extremely responsive for being written in Java. Never crashed, eiter.
Dear nihilogos:
We're sorry, but all intelligent designers are currently assisting other beings. Your request will be tended to in the the order that was receieved. The current wait time is:/pause/ 3 billion years. Please hold.
I got it on my desktop. Kind of lame that it doesn't support HT out of the box, especialling from who created it../ is now #2, the lead is an IBM team. We could probably beat them in numbers, but I doubt we could in computing power.
I do wish I could put in a limit to what % of my CPU it can use, though. Yeah, it uses the "idle" processes, but sometimes I want to use that idle to quickly use an app.. I don't want to rely on the cruncher to notice some other app needs CPU 2 seconds ago.
What kind of "sanctions" can they bring against lokitorrent for destroying evidence? (Oohhh no, we, the MPAA, refuse to sell you DVDs! HAHA, take that, lokitorrent!)
Yes, self healing and reactive systems exist for specific implementations, but not as a whole. If the kernel or some low level drivers in a TiVo went bad somehow, I doubt the TiVo could repair that.
I doubt we will see self-healing desktop boxes or general purpose servers for at least a few more years. I think that is what the article is trying to drive home.
The more they try to destroy this, the more people will get involved and the more underground it will become. Destroying BT will just produce more innovation. Destroying their customer based... etc etc etc.
It looks like their tests focused on enterprise solutions. POPFile is hardly an enterprise ready solution, it would take too long to deploy and deploy accurately. It also has some issues running under a non-administrator account in my experience.
I happily run POPFile (http://popfile.sf.net/http://www.getpopfile.org/). Perl-based, acts as a proxy. I can't run SA on some of my mail accounts (work, contractual jobs, etc). It's a basic word filter, and lets you see/change how words rate. It also explains its decision process to help you tweak it, for instance, any email with "penis" for my setup is 99.99999% spam.
To be fair, Farm Sluts is an absolutely hillarious short film. I think many of us can relate to it. Intended for mature audiences, or at least not appropriate for kids.
Pro version can use a plugin for the HTML profiles, and file transfers work about as reliably as the true clients do. T3 supports connecting through servers now, so even if your firewalls don't work, T3 can send files between AIM, for instance, by using the AOL servers. The same goes for MSN, and I believe Yahoo. Otherwise, simply configuring port forwarding on your firewall will solve the problems.
They intend for version 3.1 to include UPNP support.
I realize that we are all immigrants, and I am all for using the other channels to become a citizen. Much as our ancestors had to fight to become citizens, I believe current immigrants should as well. The reason we (should) value our citizenship so much is because of the costs our ancestors, immigrants, paid for that citizenship and freedom.
Unlike the author and some previous posters, I do not see the H1B as a proper channel to enter the US. Then again, I see the H1B as a better channel than, say, coming illegally over the border (no matter which border or what nationality).
I have taken over several projects from Indian companies and have done my part to point out to the employers what crap it was. Yes, they got the job done - but I have never seen so many short cuts used. All the comments were not in english, nor were the variables/functions. Even the English content was horribly written. I would expect a generic high school student to write better content.
I, as a programmer, do not fear the Indians, either in their own country or my own. I refuse to utilize companies that I know use Indian labor (ie, HP or Dell), and if I am ever transferred to an Indian on the phone, I refuse to speak with them. I demand to be transferred to someone who speaks English natively in an accent I can readily understand. I encourage my friends & family to do the same - nothing against the Indian workers at all. It's not racism - its a small attempt to punish the company for using outside labor. There is no reason.
I yearn for the day that we get a President & Congress that attempts to halt such things, or at least tax the corporations to the point where it would be more in their favor to hire true Americans.

Yes, it must be planned after that pesky HTML update so Slashdot doesn't look like 1995.

You may be, but we cannot require people to be "smart" in order to have basic privacy. Dumb people deserve privacy, too.
