Don't forget that these large drives at home are the precursors to large drives in the enterprise. And I can tell you right now that I would love to have enterprise level drives that hold 1/2 TB. All of the other requirements for storage (physical space, power, cooling, etc.) become smaller as individual drives become bigger.
Of course this is assuming that our users don't backup their PC to their network drive which they then back up to their PC, etc...
