  1. This just in! on Getting A Handle On Vista · · Score: 1

The MS-branded Destop Search application will be officially called "Cruiser". So look forward to someday telling someone, "Yeah, I can find that spreadsheet for you.. Let me check my Vista Cruiser" Cruiser will have the same lack of speed and versatility as it's namesake, with it's lack of advanced search features and a CPU-crippling search routine. So, hop in and drag ass to your files with the new Windows Vista Cruiser!

Check out eBookwise for their eBook hardware. Long story short, it's a rebadged eBook reader, but my wife bought one for me last January for my birthday, and I absolutely love it.

It uses SmartMedia cards, but I have probably 40-50 books on a 128MB card, and am using less than a third of the available space. It's also very easy to read, and is about the same screen size as a paperback, and the weight of a medium sized hardcover novel.

I highly recommend it for a dedicated eBook reader. The backlight is nice, and it's got about 20 hours on a full charge...

Hey, does that mean Matt Damon will be Bumblebee? Because I could actually see that working out OK. :)

    Michael Bay directing?

This film has absolutely no chance at being a quality movie-going experience..

Bring on another special effects showcase! God, I can see the pitch now...

"It's Pearl Harbor meets Voltron meets Sleepless in Seattle! I can see Ben Affleck playing Spike Witwicky, and we'll throw in (insert IT actress here) to focus completely on the romance and stuff... Yeah, there will be some giant robots, too.. but Affleck is the REAL star!"

Have to agree with Ironica. Coming on the heels of Ultima Online, EQ was a drastic step forward for the way we gamed online en masse.

Fast forward 6 years, and SOE is still putting the cart before the horse. Game after game gets launched early. Content constantly gets promised and delivered late if ever, and certainly not for free. Customers pay their hard earned entertainment dollars for sub-par features.

I've played a span of MMORPG's. Ultima Online, EverQuest, Star Wars: Galaxies, Final Fantasy VI, City of Heroes, and soon, World of Warcraft. Out of that list, the only positive experiences I have had are with the last 3 games. Final Fantasy IV had it's legs when it hit the US, and was an immersive and beautiful world. City of Heroes was a colorful addition to MMORPG's and provided a different (if limited) action-oriented style of gameplay. And with my stress-test beta experience of World of Warcraft, Blizzard seems to have outdone themselves.

EQ2? From all I have seen, it looks good. But, I've been burned by SOE twice now, and as the old saying goes:

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

  7. Re:Wear a Name tag! on Best Buy: 20% Of Customers Are Wrong · · Score: 1

I may be wrong, but didn't another retailer do this profiling a few years ago? I could swear that the "Barry, Jill & Buzz" customer profiles sound VERY familiar.

Briefly, I worked for a Best Buy in the late '90's, shortly after they started popping up in the Midwest. Spent a year and a half there, and it was one of the most miserable work experiences I've ever had. Few companies I have been employed for treated their employees so poorly and really used corporate double-speak as effectively against it's clientele.

Given my past experiences, I still make most of my new small (under $50) purchases at Best Buy. It beats going to a Wal-Mart and helping Sam Walton's good ol' boys screw Middle American small business. :)
