It is not even so much as that the rest of the world doesn't exist. It's more like out of sight, out of mind. The grand-parent is correct that most Americans will never have any contact with people from another country (Outside Canada or Mexico). The same thing is true that most Europeans will not have any contact with Americans. Honestly, with a giant body of water between the two it isn't exactly easy. Planes don't count. Most people don't make day trips by plane:) I can easily get to Canada with in 2 hours, less if it is a slow day at the border. I can't say the same about France or Germany. But now I'm rambling. So I'll stop.
Not completely correct. Alpha systems needed a different firmware (ARC) to support windows. Standard firmware on an Alpha was SRM. If your motherboard didn't support flashing the firmware then I could see needing a "special" chip. Maybe your MB was crap:)
I for one do think that it is unreasonable for the school to pay for such injuries. Not that i think you should ban "contact" games, that is just nuts. Please tell me, why should a thrid party entity pay for another person's stupid mistake? If someone injurs you at your local grocery store, you don't expect the store to pay up (unless it was an employee). You go after the person who injured you. It should be the same at the schools. One can not expect the school staff/administration to watch every child ever second of the day. It is just not possible. Make the parents of the bullies pay up for the injuries that their children cause. You always have the option to go to your local police department and press charges (not that it should always be needed, but there is always 1 or 2 children who just don't learn).
Just remember, making the school pay for someone else's action only does one thing: Cost everyone more money later in higher taxes.
Both companies seem to only support Windows and IE. What about the other half of the planet. Opensource aside, there is still a pretty big Mac base out there. It makes great market sense to alienate a group of users like that.
Ok, umm, deja vu? Jolt Cola ( aka. Wet Planet Beverages ) already did this. Too bad I can't remember what they called it, I guess I'll have to reply to my own post:)
Hey! I work for RadioShack....and only most of us have blank stares! (Not myself, of course)
Anyways, it would be about time that the USB and Firewire were active. I just took a look at there web site and it claims that they are preparing to offer the option to record your recorded shows to your VCR w/o having to sit and watch it. This would be great for all of my kids shows.
Wow...all of us from rochester. That means at least people live here:) Anyways, anyone have any idea when the IEEE 1394 or VCR outpus will be turned on? I've had my box since last august and am still waiting for those features. I feel sorry for TW....these boxes haven't been too reliable for me, overheating and stuff.
If you have a valid license (the EULA, not the activation key) you can purchase a "media pack" from M$. It comes with installation media and its own activation key. I believe that you just have to pay for the cost of the media and shipping. I know that it isn't the ideal solution, but it is better than nothing. The restoration CDs that are shipped with a lot of OEM systems also prevent you from transfering the lisence to another machine or to another person or organization which is also allowed by the EULA that you implicitly agree to by using the software. We as consumers need to not only tell the OEMs that we don't want to have to purchase M$ OSes but also that if we do want the OS then we want to be able to envoke any and all of our given rights according to the EULA.
How long have you had your number? I've looked up several of the numbers that I have had, to see what information comes up, and quite a few had information aboutthe previous user of that number. I've been so lucky to have to move around so much. It takes at least 6 months for all the junk mail to start poring in:)
The TI-86 has more memory, for one. It also supports assembly programs directly, so no need for an external program to run them anymore ( like the Z-shell)
It also does NOT do symbolic manipulation, unlikethe TI-92, TI-89. This means that you will be more likely to be able allowed to use it in higher Calc courses in college.
Ok, now I know this may be news to a lot of people, but there were things such as "The Internet" and "Domains" before "The Web". Just because someone owns a domain and doesn't have a web site on it doesn't mean that the person isn't using it for other reasons. I can register "kt.com" and use it for telnet, ftp or whatever. If there is a company called "Kt, inc." they shouldn't be able to take away my domain JUST because there isn't a web site up on it. (Sure they MAY have other rights to it, if of course they don't do something like registering kt-inc.com after I registered my domain)

You know, the reason a US gallon differs from an Imerial gallon... after the war Britian did a system upgrade and wouldn't sell us a license :)

Ok, if I looked into it first, I would have said:
Ok, umm, deja vu? Jolt Cola ( aka. Wet Planet Beverages ) already did this,
they called it Jolt Espresso, and it was yummy.

I have one, it is way cool.

There are basically only two installations
that companies need to worry about.
1) SysV style scripts and init
2) BSD style scripts and init
(Slackware, which uses BSD styling, at least tries
to give users a way to run SysV only software)
The rest is no different than buying WinBlows
software (Win95, DirectX 7.25 or WinNT 4.0 SP4
or higher)
ALL software has minimum requirments, but the
init style you use shouldn't matter.
They just need to say what libraries are required,
obviously, a program linked with glibc2 is not
going to run on Slack 3.0 (libc5).
