    I remember when tasers were first deployed. They assured us they would only be used for self defense and would absolutely never be used as any sort of 'compliance tool'.

    I guess that slope was too slippery for them.

    Police are now so badly trained and so out of shape they can't even handle a 44 year-old, 80 pound Chinese woman, they have to resort to high tech weaponry.

    If he becomes an elected official, the Australian government will be under a great deal of pressure to issue him an official passport and place him under diplomatic immunity.

    It doesn't work that way. Diplomatic immunity is granted on entry to a country, not afterwards.

    PS don't you have to be charged before you can be arrested?

    Um, no. Almost any country in the world can hold you for a certain time without charges (eg. 24 hours).

    Whatever flashy headline was used to attract readers to the fact that there are potentially *a lot* of undetected large objects that could wipe us out was worth it. I mean, this is serious shit, and we are NOT taking it seriously enough

    If a big rock was headed this way, what exactly could we do about it? More advance warning just means more days of fighting/looting/burning.

    If a Raspberry Pi can run the latest distro, why can't a machine with eight times as much RAM, disk space, etc. run the exact same thing?

    This is a joke, a complete betrayal by a man who ought to know better then to piss off all the people who put him where he is today. There's a REASON why some of us choose Linux over Windows (or should I say "chose"?)

    You might have a point if he was just some air-headed celebrity who never did anything except appear on TV.

    He wasn't, therefore you don't.

    This is the man who played duet with Einstein, made the maps used to plan the moon landings, and presented the longest running show in TV history with the same presenter (nearly 56 years!) - and it was a science show.
