    The old "You can recover data even after it's overwritten" thing is a myth.

    Today's bit densities are so high that it simply isn't going to happen.

    Format them. Run a small program to write a file (can be the output of a RNG if you want) until the disk is full. Job done.

    Or, as mentioned, use one of the many programs available for this.

    Take the "repeatedly overwrite" thing with a pinch of salt unless you really enjoy sitting there watching hard drive lights blinking.

    Yeah, but every single country in the world does this. Including the USA (the USA is actually one of the worst, it's not even government level stuff, it's handing Airbus secrets to Boeing so they can compete, stuff like that).

    Why all the stories about Chinese spying...? It's just more smoke and mirrors to give the population something to focus on other than the government's failure.

    The alternative to this is that the Earth can somehow heat itself up spontaneously.

    Yep. They're more interested in "winning" for their party than helping the country. They were never going to agree.

    OTOH the result is good. There's no way to decide who should get cuts because every department in government is lead by professional liars and bullshit artists. The only answer is to cut every single department by the same percentage.

    Does CPU usage really matter for certificates? They're only used sign things or encrypt session keys so you only need to do one encryption per session.

    Yeah, but they still didn't add a secure boot mode to Windows or even a way to ensure the antivirus is the first thing to run.

    Also ... "Failsafe mode" isn't. You can run any program you like in failsafe more just by adding it to the registry.

    The only way to really scan a Windows disk for a virus is to take it out and connect it to another machine (hopefully a clean one...)

    Bottom line: There's still an awful long way to go as far as Windows security is concerned.

    Yeah, I notice there's no "geeky and no good at any sports" option on their list.

    This will be used by parents who are going to bully their kids into playing sports whether they want to or not. Society will be poorer as a result.
