Hmm - I've been accessing experts-exchange for years through google and never even noticed that I was getting the answers through a glitch. I guess they should send google a C&D, huh?
I love it... You make a good argument about basing your ideas on facts through the whole post and then make the unreasoned statement that there is no God. Well, this is slashdot, after all.
When I first read Ender's Game 10 years ago I'd have agreed that it was the most compelling. Re-reading as a 33 year old I've found that Speaker For The Dead is by far the better book. Sure, it's a lot slower paced, but I found it to be more interesting overall.
I have three TVs in my home. One runs on satellite, so I can stick with the current set up for that. But why should I have to spend $360 to buy digital converters for the other two? Those TVs are used for watching free broadcast TV (and VHS/DVD) and I didn't pay $360 for the sets themselves. I believe if you added up the costs of those TVs I might have paid closer to the $180 price that you can get just one of these set-top boxes for.
I know you're not supposed to feed the trolls, but man, that's some ridiculous text I just read there... Scientifically speaking, a human is a member of the Homo Sapiens species. That's what I was referring to when I mentioned biology. You can cut a human apart and it's still a human, but a computer that's programmed to "think" like a human is not a human.
In reality, yes, of course. Legally and socially are other matters entirely.
What? Certainly there is more to qualifying as a human than the brain. And I'm not talking about legal and social matters. There's a whole lot of biology in there too...
I wouldn't necessarily say "moderate Right" and "radical Right" because as a conservative I can tell you that neither party represents me either. I'd probably call them "moderately Wrong" and "radically Wrong". Of course, which party gets which moniker depends on what issue you're talking about.
Don't feed the trolls - when an AC says something stupid, let it slide.
How about when drinkypoo says something stupid? My co-pays for dental are tiny (nothing for the 6-month cleaning, hardly more than that for the more major stuff), and I have fairly cheap dental insurance.
"I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign-policy matters with war on my mind. Again, I wish it wasn't true, but it is true. And the American people need to know they got a president who sees the world the way it is. And I see dangers that exist, and it's important for us to deal with them."
Looks to me like he's saying that he DOESN'T want to be a war president, but he is.
Should I look into your other claims, or will that be a waste of time?
There is one thing I can see that you're missing. With Libertarianism one has a choice to be altruistic. There is nothing saying that I can't share my wealth as I see fit. With Communism the altruism is forced and selfishness isn't allowed.
I think you'll both find that there's no such thing as a "USian." I realize you're trying to point out that America doesn't stop at United States borders, but ask a Canadian what he considers himself and he'll say "Canadian." Ask him what he considers someone from the US, and after saying something to the effect of "An asshole," he'll most likely say "American." It's just correct term.
And I account for two of them. When I thought about putting my music on myspace I didn't take the time to closely examine the page and see that there was a separate music section. So I created a crappy little "social" account. There are a ton of bands and movies out there along with other commerical entities. Yes, there are many older folk, but to think at all that those 116 million accounts represent 116 million individuals is wrong.
I started playing guitar at the age of 14. At the time Ozzy Osbourne and Iron Maiden were my absolute favorites, so I naturally started trying to play their music. Within two months I could play just about everything on the Randy Rhodes Tribute album, and even now - 18 years later - I still don't consider myself a great guitarist. I just happened to practice those songs incessantly for the first 6 months or so. Then I joined a band and started writing music. Now I still write (my music), but as I have a full time job and a family I don't have the time to practice like I used to or play in a band. Maybe when the kids are a little older.
Point is, in two months most anybody willing to put the time to it CAN be playing Randy's music, Vaughn's music, and maybe even Dimebag's music, though it might take a little more time to build up that speed and accuracy for most.
The number one job of a government is keeping its citizens safe. In a time of war the military is the number one tool for keeping citizens safe. I'm not bringing this up to say that the war is right or wrong, but to say that at least the administration is being consistant between budget requests and the fact that we are at war.
Also, as others pointed out, this is just a fraction of the overall budget.
I hate the num lock key as I usually use it immediately after keying in what I thought were numbers only to move the cursor around. I can't fathom why someone would chose to use the number keys as arrow keys when there are actual arrow keys sitting right there.
What about laptops? My number pad keys switch to m . j k l u i o 7 8 9 0 p ; and / when I shut the num lock off. Are those unimportant? And yet it's nice to be able to switch to numbers when I have to do some numerical data entry.
Point is, there is a use for each key on the keyboard. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean that other people don't.
Great - AS I READ this story a company wide email came across saying that the flu shot clinics scheduled for today and thursday are postponed indefinately due to a shortage at our supplier. Wonderful.
I think you'd have found the continuity you're looking for if the show had been allowed to continue. There was a lot going on that was never allowed to develop - especially the storylines revolving around River and around Book.
Totally agree about Jayne's Day though. That's one hell of an episode. I remember last winter sitting down to that episode with my guitar and playing along with "The Ballad of Jayne". Joss not only writes good shows, but good music too.

Let's look at the FULL "war president" quote:
"I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign-policy matters with war on my mind. Again, I wish it wasn't true, but it is true. And the American people need to know they got a president who sees the world the way it is. And I see dangers that exist, and it's important for us to deal with them."

Yeah - you need the tuner.
Or, for an internal antenna (which might not work at your distance), use a simple UHF antenna. Works great for me.
Wow - where's my "+1 Honest" mod points? Seriously though - I know where you're coming from.
Watch the end credits. The lyrics don't come in, but the music is there in modified form.

Yeah, but who decides what the good or bad legislation is? Legislation is always good for *someone*...

I remember my dad showing the power locks on his new car; can you buy a car without them now?
Yes. =(

But if you read what he wrote, he did say that he actually doesn't have a license and does drive anyway.
As is driving without a license.
