>Because the majority of The People do not beleive music theft to be a crime
I think you mean the majority of the people under 18. Most adults would consider it theft whether they'd do it themselves or not.
I'm over 18 and don't consider it theft. Copyright infringement, maybe, but not theft. It's like those goofy commercials they're putting at the beginning of DVDs - would you steal a car? Would you steal a purse? Would you steal a cell phone? No, I wouldn't steal any of those. But if I could make an exact duplicate copy of any of them, and the original was still intact, then damn straight I would!
It's funny, because I did the EXACT same thing. Good ol' phonetics! Having books as a kid is great, and learning to read from them is great, but I've mispronounced a lot of things along the way because the only time I've "heard" them was in a book!
I don't want the Batman-utility belt, so I keep my phone in my pocket. Now, it's not unbearable, but I'd be all for it having a slimmer profile in my pants.
Thanks for saving me my post. I swear we've been hearing about this revolutionary, cheap, flexible e-ink/flexible LED sheets forever. We're supposed to have 60" HDTVs we can roll up for a few hundred bucks. And that was 2-3 years ago. Call me when this stuff is here now.
So Microsoft would make an OS, that runs Windows programs, and could even have the Vista interface? What in the world would they call it?
I'm sorry, but MS making a linux distro that is essentially their already existing Windows OS (at what point does it stop being linux and start being windows?) is even crazier than them making Office for linux in the first place!
But the loss of the U.P.'s tourism industry (especially around Labor Day!) would be devastating to the nation as a whole! Won't somebody think of da children?
Purely playing Devil's Advocate, but what are you doing? I see lots of jabs at the complacency of Americans, but I don't imagine many lawmakers pour over comments on Slashdot. Does everyone who complains tell their friends, write they senators and representatives, and vote regularly? Or do they merely make anonymous complaints on Internet message boards and blogs?
At least they're doing something to move on from the time zone and toll road debacles. ~ recent new Indiana resident:-/ (how do you make a freakin' arrow in a comment?)
I know it's tongue-in-cheek, but still. I'm working in a system where the code standards say everything should be in all caps. The caps lock makes it a whole lot easier. Yes, I could write it in lower case, copy and paste it into something and then convert everything to all caps, but that's what the freakin' caps lock key is for!
Mostly, I think this stems from the people that complain about hitting errant keys while typing - caps lock, ctrl, the Windows key, etc. I've seen people that have pried off keys from their keyboard, disabled them through the registry, etc. Jeez people, pay some damned attention to what you're doing! In my 17 years of computing (ack, I feel old now...I'm only 26:-/ ) I can't say I've ever had a time where I kept hitting the wrong stupid key on my keyboard. Pay attention to what the hell you are doing! Are there that many of you that are clumsy fat-fingered oafs? Maybe keyboards should just have the 10 most common keys on them so I can just mash my fists down and have my work magically come out....
My vote goes to Ohio. Other than Cedar Point (which can easily be lopped off and slid over to Detroit), the state is a complete waste. Indiana is close behind, though.
Why hide the identities of activists? If you believe in a cause enough to protest and/or take possible legal risks, shouldn't you be willing to stand up for your beliefs in public? Or can you only be willing to stand up for your beliefs when there's no chance of repercussions?
Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
No, seriously, if I had the mod points I'd give them all to you. Nothing pisses me off more than self-righteous people trying to make a statement and instead making my day to day life a pain in the ass. Why in the world would I support your cause if you make my trip to work (or heaven help you, my trip home) more difficult?
Not to stir anything up, but how does Qt compare to GTK? Could things like gaim or GIMP be redone in Qt (mostly gaim as I think GTK is a whole lot of the reason it takes up so much memory in Windows)? What kind of project would that be? Maybe I'll have to check it out and throw together a simple app or something.
Actually, I think using chat rooms when I was younger and ultimately IM-ing has made me a much better typist. It improved my skills so that I am able to type quickly and accurately. Poor grammar and writing skills exist whether you are using pen, pencils, paper, or computers. It is a sign of not caring, not of the medium. You can write shorthand, scribble on a scrap piece of paper, etc. just as easy as you can type gibberish.
In the world of auto analogies, it seems to me that's all like leaving your car running the driveway all the time, so you can jump right in and go. It just seems sloppy and wasteful. I develop web apps, too, and sure, my browsers will be open all day. Never noticed any memory problems during the day.
Is this where most of the "Firefox uses so much memory" arguments come from? I've never (on any version) noticed memory leaks with Firefox, but then again, I don't run the browser for freakin' days on end. Who does this?!? I open my browser, do what I need to with it, then close it out. Who runs it for days without needing to close it? Hell, if I kept calc.exe running in the background for weeks, it'd probably start using up resources, too.

Haha, walked right into that one! "Ya-pee-pee!" Hah!

Whatever happened to the "information just wants to be free" argument? Where's that now?

Good luck running SQL Server and/or .NET (Mono isn't ready yet) on that Debian setup :-)

So *that's* what Google is doing buying up all that dark fiber!
Where's GEOS?

So which is more difficult for XP users to switch to? Linux or Vista?

Alternatively, I will start using adult and vulgar keywords to lure unsuspecting pr0n purveyors into my collective dolls web store!
