To me, the mama virus infects the amoeba, and then sputnik infects amoeba's that have been compromised by the mama virus. It's more similar to secondary infections when somebody has HIV. There is a difference in that Sputnik infects things created because of the mama virus infection, but these are not the mama virus itself.

Actually, I would say most people DO know have technical friend. It's just a question of how bad they're willing to abuse the relationship.

Are they considering the possibility of an illegal black market for OLPC laptops? If each child owns one, what's to prevent miltia from raiding a town and taking all of the laptops for resale?

I completely agree. Playing sports has nothing to do with education and should not be in a school's budget, nor associated with the school. The argument that athletics make for a healthier society is valid, but at least separate the budget into necessary teacher salaries and worthless football pads.

Art students had little to no trouble, as they all bought macs. :)
I work at a liberal arts helpdesk, and I completely agree. The only problem with macs we see is a busted hard drive or a mis configured NIC. 90% of the computers at the desk are PCs, and they always take a while to clean. Plus, sometimes the PC virus goes ahead and deletes all the student's files - its kinda like being a doctor, "I'm sorry, there's nothing more we can do."
