Hold up a ball. Which side points to the earth? What happens when you drop it? Will it always fall towards the earth? Now, go to Australia. Which side of the ball faces the earth? What happens when you drop it? If you drop the ball, will it fall towards the earth? If so, that's why they haven't fallen off. Now of course, move a larger-than-earth, as-dense-as-earth object near the Earth on the side of Australia and your answer will differ. Of course, the Earth is more likely to be destroyed by gravitational tidal forces due to that before you are able to 'fall off' Australia but at least you'd have your tired old joke.:-P
Nice idea and I hope the implementation is well thought out -- designing pictograms that make sense to many cultures is difficult. The other usual concerns also apply -- speaking of which, one issue I see right off the bat is that they're using color as a sole designator in the icon set. For people with red/green color blindness, this makes the set of icons unusable for its intended purpose.
In a world where communications media allow only one person with $5000 worth of equipment to share that equipment with people who have all the spare time (and there are lots, just look at us for an example) it'll be pretty much the same as before (visit a website, here's your data).
They're not just listening to it. There are a lot of recovery techniques that must be performed very carefully and with strict controls to recover every last bit of intelligible information from those media.
"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.".. seems oddly apt, but possibly a little late for the mainstream news.
Who also often have no technical expertise in the field of the case in which they are supposed to be making decisions. One week a rubber tyre manufacturer, and the next a microcomputer chip manufacturer debating about the minutiae of their patents which are almost all >10 pages long and filled with hundreds upon hundreds of "whereas"s and conditions, I'd imagine it'd be enough to make any tenured lawyer pull out their hair.
MM = Machinist Mate, think Mechanical Engineer but for maintenance operations on mechanical equipment. EM = Electrician's Mate, think Electrical Engineer but for maintenance operations on electrical equipment. A-Div: various shops and other groups that maintain the mechanical systems such as Hydraulics, AC, Steam and Heat, the catapults, fire pumps and water distribution systems, among others. M-Div: Machinery division refers to the group of MMs. E-Div: same for EMs. Afraid I don't know what DZ means, though it's a METAR code for drizzle, so perhaps that's what's being referred to. No first hand knowledge here, just stuff gained from reading, so please if you've got first hand or links, please correct.
There's a general feeling (at least one that I've observed) that online petitions don't do anything useful, so even though one exists I certainly wouldn't trust it to judge demand for any one particular thing.
I/wish/ Netflix would use flash instead of their silverlight based technology because I don't use Windows or Mac and would actually like to be able to watch Netflix streaming content. At least at least Adobe usually lives up to their cross-platform promise. Actually it would be nice if they just used an open format, but I doubt that's going to happen while DRM support remains poor (I'm not going to go down that rabbit hole in this post.)
On the contrary to the moderation and the reply comments, no Woosh or sarcasm intended at all. The main reason I commented there is that if one did not know that ChromeOS was a linux-based system then one might think that ChromeOS was a replacement for the Linux base of android. Some people don't read slashdot regularly or keep up on android or Chrome OS development. Granted that these people aren't slashdot's main focus, but they shouldn't be excluded. I just wanted to be clear, but perhaps I was a bit too terse.
You could always attach a cryocooling apparatus to the head and head area. If it's small and lightweight, it could potentially be miniaturized to fit inside the drive's casing itself. If not, well.. you remember those people who put in massive refrigeration systems in order to over-clock their systems? Well, they're still out there.

Indeed, from the man who says he won't let his kids use an iPod, comes an appraisal of a product he's probably never really used. And of course, Google isn't allowed either, so, perhaps Android follows naturally. (iPod/Google reference: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2006/04/03/8373041/index.htm )
It's more like we can't not do something, that is to say, it is directly required.

It's kind of awesome when real physical devices start to sound like technobabble isn't it?
You look more like a meat popsicle to me.

As they say, "A cat in any state is fine too."
Now with 90% more logical fallacy per communiqué!
You know, I could be a smart arse and say this rules out most people that choose to use PHP, but I think my karma would burn. Oh wait....
$matching_vehicles = $vehicles->findBy(array('vin' => $vins));
There's nothing quite like a proper abstraction. You might want to take a look at the Doctrine ORM.. it implements something like that.
All adults sound the same in that universe.
Does it come with Reversi? Also, can it be downloaded from Nebraska?
Right right, should've been more clear on that.

Also it won't protect you if your machine has accepted a CA cert from your workplace and they're man in the middling you.
Argh, I know it's poor form to reply to your own post, but that doubled up "at least" bugs me so.

The method signature in no way guarantees that the implementation will check for security authorization before taking the action.
