Do you guys still trust a browser that runs without hardware DEP? (buffer overrun protection)
A fully patched Windows XP SP2 box that runs the latest version of Opera will turn off DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for the Opera process. Leaving the door open to buffer overrun attacks. Not good at all.
The problem comes from the fact that the DEP OPTOUT mode should be called OPTOUT + BACKDOORS. There are currently 3 backdoors section strings that when found in the executable header disable the DEP for the process. These strings are.aspack (an executable packer used by Opera, IrfanView and XNView),.pcle (currently unknown) and.sforce (the VERY UNPOPULAR game/programs copy protection).

There is an obvious advantage of using a 64 bits system... large files handling. In my case it's the panoramic image stitching that fells free when ran on a 64 bits system.

MySpace hit by security breach
July 21, 2006 12:57 PM PDT
More than a million MySpace users have been exposed to spyware that exploits a Windows vulnerability through a banner ad on the site, the BBC reported on Friday.
Those using Internet Explorer that has not been patched against the Windows Meta File (WMF) vulnerability could be exposed to spyware and adware.
The vulnerability in the way WMF images are handled by Windows was discovered in November 2005. In a WMF attack, exploit code is hidden within a seemingly normal image that can be spread via e-mails or instant messages, or via Web sites.
Reports suggest the advert has been running for approximately a week.
Security company iDefense detected computer servers being used to log how many times adware was installed from the advert, according to the Washington Post.
More than one million installations of the adware were logged before the servers were shut down.
One of the major origin of hurricanes is the ocean temperature. If enough water is above 27C you are likely to see hurricanes poping on the radar. If some still want to believe that it was bad luck/fate/god's vengeance/*pick dump excuse* that braught the south of the USA to the ground... let them do.
It's kinda OT... but I prefer the more readable Pan European Game Information (www.pegi.info). Their base tag displays a more readable 3+ (for 3 years old and more) and so on.
I'm 31 years old... and still prefer the 3+ games.:) I'm a Nintendo maniac.:D
... it has a weird way of walking, a limited memory capabilities, little cognitive abilities and chocked on pretzels.
It also had a poorly placed battery holder in the back (it created an ugly looking bulge) and a malfunctionning control system.
fyi: the v1 can be found in the white house^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H *cough* crawford ranch.
John Doe and his new M$ piece of software
1- Install M$ Antispyware.
2- Run the thingy.
3- Reboot to finish the cleaning.
4- At c:\ prompt call M$ for support *OR* install Linux.

Most of the music I download is just for "testing" I burn it on CDR since my car stereo refuses CDRW. Most of them last less than a couple of days in my car. For some rare gems I buy the original... sometimes its quite difficult. (ie: Cara Dillon CDs only available thru Amazon UK)
Music industry evolve or vanish.
If not... the keystone that says that we will never need more than 640kB must be thrown away.

1) crawl to the File menu
2) click on Open document
3) select a document
Voila... the document is now open. Yes it's THAT simple.
Here in France
I get a 12Mbps/1Mbps without data volume limits for 30. (39$ or 20£) At this price the IP telephony and DSL TV is included.
Hey the brit it's time to revive the old middle age habits and invade France all over again (you want to consider southern France first).

Light is faster with the metric system...
Doh!
