The obvious response is to migrate as soon as possible to Linux, Unix or, when the chipset shift happens, to Mac OSX. Better security, less bloat and, frankly, less hassle from Redmond.
If you want to stop the machine, meaning M$, then STOP them and go to something else. With their high-handed nonsense about SID for email (no more forwarding your email from academic accounts, students!) and their idiotic addition of RSS (the new Spam Highway if ever there was one) without a serious control set for it (at least no one's been talking about it), then it's about time that they learned that they are not the only game on the planet!
Stop the machine the real way and migrate!

Looked at the download on Google's site for their version and it's all well and fine, but if you are a Mac user, you are S.O.L.
Don't know if the new version does, but Google's version, as of yesterday, doesn't.
Thanks Picasa - for nothing.

So the collectors are all going to go away? The people who believe in their right to keep and bear arms are all going to go away?
Are they (the government) mandate retro-fitting all firearms to a "smart" configuration - thus ruining their balance, feel and value as collector's items?
Are they going to PAY for it.
Ain't going to happen. While I'm no NRA member or right-wing whack-o, the minute they outlaw "standard" firearms will be the day I go out and buy one.

Yeah, sure, another lousy awards show that very few people watched (see the ratings for proof). There are so many awards shows on now that one can barely turn on the tv without tripping over another one.
Sure, the models were eye candy, I guess (no, I did not watch the show as I have a life), but every one of those awards shows have eye candy of one type or another.
TV awards shows are getting like beauty pageants - there's an awards show for everything and, frankly, judging from the ratings, the public could not care less. Even the Miss America pageant looks likt it's heading for the last roundup in the next few years (their ratings cost them two major network contracts in the last decade or so).
So, I have to ask, why bother with a TV show? Make the awards, announce them to the press and get back to the console!

Yep! Just what drivers need, more visual distractions. While squinting to see a HUD of the route as they head into a sunrise or sunset they completely ignore the semi that has stopped short in front of them causing the driver and occupants of the behicle to do a wonderful imitation of a certain Hollywood blonde bombshell who died in the same way.
Yep! Sign me up for that! (note use of sarcasm for emphasis)

The big problem is that if the cops can do it, then pretty soon that software will be in the hands of people who make their livings off of US making OUR livings via identity theft.
It also opens up a whole can of worms with regards to the preservation of evidence and the use of pre-emptive police actions against a possible offender who s only in the planning stages or who is running a game - ask Steve Jackson Games about THAT one!
You also have, with such a product, the next logical extension, which is the ability to take over your computer, possibly in a transparent mode to the user, and PLANT incriminating materials on there should the individual in question be a thron in the side of the Powers_That-Be.
Nope! Not good. Not good at all.
Hope this clarifies some of the concerns those of us who still believe in the "innocent until proven guilty" laws.

Looking at the typos, grammatical errors and the like in the book, I can only conclude that it was ghost written by George W. Bush!
"It's for the embetterment of the Iraqi people!" - or roleplayers who want to know their own history. Or something like that...

In the tech sales area, it's a famine, for certain. A recent series of ads put out by several of the major Chicago tech recruiting firms showed only about a dozen ads in the last 3 months and the requirements were in the range of a MINIMUM of an MBA, 6 to 10 years experience, verifiable sales figures (not just W-2's either) and, in one instance an MSCE on top of all the rest of this.
And these were from recruiters! You know, the folks who put out come-on ads and try to recruit you to work for them recruiting people for "real" jobs!"
In other words, no jobs, aren't going to BE any jobs, start looking to make a career change if you are an unemployed tech sales rep (unless you want to work at an Apple store for $9/hour part time with no set minimum hours).
Oh, yeah, the death of passwords based on Microsoft's say-so. Somehow, while the technology is interesting, one has to wonder at ANY hardware based security method. Look at the supposedly "uncrackable" encryption devices on such things as cable TV signals and DVDs. Not to mention that Gates is looking for yet another way to literally control the transfer of ALL information in the world.
We must also remember that Microsoft has one of the poorest records on security in the computer software industry. I am willing to bet that this product, nifty tech though it seems to be, will be as full of holes, security-wise - as everything else that has come out of Redmond.
"One does not conquer the world with military force or economic pressure. One conquers the world by controlling what people think. Control the sources of information and you will control what people think." - me 1969.
Also, it's yet another assault on the open system of the web by.Net and a whole new way for Gates to line his already incredibly well-filled bank accounts.
Well, once again, the Administration is trying to bolster their corporate buddies with yet another money-making scheme that solves a problem that does not exist by making them put RFID tags on pharmaceutical bottles, with an eye to getting them onto home-user bottles.
Whatever happened to doctor-patient confidentiality? Given that these scannable units are readily readable by hand held monitors that are commercially available, the possibilities for abuse by people who are not supposed to have access to that information are obvious and something that will happen.
There are already fears about the abuse of medical record information, including prescription medications. When certain medications can be used to treat multiple disorders, like Neurontin being used for epilepsy, migraine and fibromyalgia, it's pretty obvious that someone like an insurance company or potential employer could leap to an incorrect conclusion about someone who is using that medication.
Not to mention the person who scans someone coming out of the drug store and decided to either mug him or rob his house for specific drugs that are wanted on the street.
Big Brother seems to have arrived a little late, but he's worming his way into our medical bottles, slowly but surely.
Do YOU want the feds (or anybody else except your doctor or an EMT team) to know what meds you are taking? I think not.
