So, you're complaining about someone being selfish and yet we're ina capitalist system that relies on people being selfish. There's large corporations trying to find any possible loophole to avoid paying taxes; rich people moving assets into tax havens to avoid paying their dues to society; bankers destroying people's lives in order to make a quick buck. Yet you're complaining that we shouldn't torrent a series?
I see it as my civic duty to pirate as many tv shows as possible to demonstrate the flaws in the old content distribution monopolies model.
There's no reason why co-operatives can't produce expensive "blockbusters". If there's enough people to pay for a cinema ticket to make it worthwhile to film LOTR, then those same people could equally have paid that same money to a co-operative without even knowing the difference.
I think you've got a bit confused about how much it costs to produce TV series. In the UK, we pay for the BBC through the TV license fee (*cough* tax) which costs £145.50 for a year.
That also covers their radio and online services. On the other hand, they get some funding from selling programmes overseas and various merchandise, but that would equally apply to any company producing TV programmes.
They weren't designed to cause permanent damage. They used visible light, so the chances are that the pilot would close their eyes before enough heat could damage their retinas. It's the non-visible lasers that cause the real damage as your eyes don't protect themselves and the focussed energy burns the retinas.
As I recall, the infamous show (Panorama? Newsnight?) had a member of the public, a woman, grilling Thatcher about destroying the Belgrano. I don't think she was a journalist.
I almost feel sorry for posting this, but your post really reminded me of this:
ARTHUR: He has given us a sign!
FOLLOWER: Oh!
SHOE FOLLOWER: He has given us... His shoe!
ARTHUR: The shoe is the sign. Let us follow His example.
SPIKE: What?
ARTHUR: Let us, like Him, hold up one shoe and let the other be upon our foot, for this is His sign, that all who follow Him shall do likewise.
EDDIE: Yes.
SHOE FOLLOWER: No, no, no. The shoe is...
YOUTH: No.
SHOE FOLLOWER:...a sign that we must gather shoes together in abundance.
GIRL: Cast off...
SPIKE: Aye. What?
GIRL:...the shoes! Follow the Gourd!
SHOE FOLLOWER: No! Let us gather shoes together!
FRANK: Yes.
SHOE FOLLOWER: Let me!
ELSIE: Oh, get off!
YOUTH: No, no! It is a sign that, like Him, we must think not of the things of the body, but of the face and head!
SHOE FOLLOWER: Give me your shoe!
YOUTH: Get off!
GIRL: Follow the Gourd! The Holy Gourd of Jerusalem!
FOLLOWER: The Gourd!
HARRY: Hold up the sandal, as He has commanded us!
ARTHUR: It is a shoe! It is a shoe!
HARRY: It's a sandal!
ARTHUR: No, it isn't!
GIRL: Cast it away!
ARTHUR: Put it on!
YOUTH: And clear off!
SHOE FOLLOWER: Take the shoes and follow Him!
GIRL: Come,...
FRANK: Yes!
GIRL:...all ye who call yourself Gourdenes!
Security is a process rather than an end product. Linux is not "secure" as there will always by holes/exploits/bugs etc. However, open source development provides more opportunities to improve security. Whether or not it is currently more or less secure than Windows or OSX is debatable (and almost impossible to accurately measure).
So, as an outsider, how would someone distinguish a "real" religion from a "manufactured" religion? Is it just down to how long the religion has been around?
The firefox and java problems can be worked around, but if the FBI is interested in stopping anonimity through TOR, then Windows will most likely be compromised as well. This particular attack only worked on Windows, so avoiding Windows prevents the current attack and may provide more protection against future attacks.
If Assange is "using" Swedish legal procedure as a "media trick", then why doesn't someone go to the Ecuador Embassy to question him and then press charges? He has made himself available for questioning, but he doesn't want to go back to Sweden as he knows that he will end up in the black hole of justice that is the USofA.
If you believe a word that Assange's detractors say, then you're an idiot.
I've been waiting for proper bluetooth low-energy support. Does anyone know if this means that a Nexus 4 will be able to use apps like Strava and link up to a bluetooth 4 heart rate monitor? I've been using an iPhone 4s and my wife wants to get a new phone that can use a heart rate monitor (cycling and running), but I much prefer Android to iOS (she's got my old HTC HD2 with Android running on it).
I've found that following a gluten-free diet has helped with my psoriasis enormously. I saw an article showing a link between gluten and psoriasis in women (don't think men were included int he experiment) and about 10% of them found a benefit to avoiding gluten, so I thought I'd give it a try. So, even though I'm not gluten intolerant it appears that I am sensitive to it, but then again psoriasis seems to have a variety of triggers for different people.
That said, a lot of the gluten free food is rubbish. The best bet is to go for fresh ingredients and cook it yourself.
Braking Bad? Is that the show about a driving instructor who decides to turn his hand to fitting custom ECUs to illegally supercharge vehicles?
Oh, I know this one... is it the blue pill?

Yeah, it only took me about 5 minutes to download it yesterday.

Just looked it up, it was a housewife called Diane Gould. http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_6460000/newsid_6467800/6467889.stm?bw=nb&mp=wm

Yes. Yes you should.
A combination of Ghostery and NoScript fixes that.

So, it has come to this.
I believe Julian Assange hasn't been formally charged - he's just wanted for questioning.
It's like madness, but spread out over a whole bunch of people.
So, it has come to this.
It can hardly be worth restricting your caffeine-blood level like that just to be allowed to compete. Guess I'll never be a sprinter.
She's not particularly fussed, but she's not used Apple stuff very much and a Nexus 4 is a lot cheaper than an iPhone 4s.

Techically, the UK and Britain are different (there's more places in the UK).
