Got any numbers to back that up? So the seller's feedback % goes from 99.7% to 99.6%. One negative more in a pool of thousands of positive feedbacks. Meanwhile even though I paid immediately after auction, received a bad item, and attempted to contact the seller of their mistake, my feedback goes from 100% to 95% because I've only purchased a handful of things on my account. Seller has their cash, I've got a useless piece of junk.

My actual ebay feedback % is something like 84%, even though I've never screwed over any sellers. My feedback includes several great buyer/seller comments, a few "retracted paypal payment BEWARE" comments, and a couple "deadbeat buyer" comment. The last few times I've bid on anything, my bid was removed because of these. As a result I haven't picked up anything from ebay in ages. Reporting the sellers still leaves me with less cash and bad feedback. How many casual ebay buyers are driven away from retaliation?

I don't agree that sellers shouldn't be able to leave any feedback for the record. Maybe as others have said, force the seller to leave it first (though that just shifts the retaliation to the buyer...), but as a casual buyer I like this move. Maybe I'll actually get a power seller to email me back after I've paid them now!

Ebay has had a major drop in its stock value over the past few months. I believe that, since the actual number of auctions/bidders has dropped, this was an attempt to get more money from those people still doing decent business... Power Sellers. Really? I thought the measures were put in place so that people would bid more confidently, knowing that if they got screwed by the big sellers that they could post negative feedback without fear of retaliation. Or was that last week's policy change?

Right, because if a gunman is holding my family hostage and my neighbor calls to report it, the first thing I want the police to do is knock on the door and calmly ask the guy if everything is going swimmingly.

This case has nothing to do with abusive powers. It has everything to do with people providing police with false information. If I remember correctly, that's why the police went into the grandmother's home.

That is the ticket! Sorry, every time CNN or whoever covers the tax rebate story, they toss up either a stock image of cash, or a row of HDTVs. All the media outlets seem to think that everyone is going to go out and buy new TVs...so that's what I've been referring to them as.

Except you can't take bad data and try to twist it to back up claims. That's what wikipedia is for.

You're right, total HDTV sales does not mean 1 HDTV per household. If that were true, that estimated number would be 36% by the end of 2007. Nielsen took that into account, and put that number at 13.7%, as I stated earlier.

  18. Re:whew, fewer syllables on Toshiba To Halt HD-DVD Production · · Score: 1

6 million HDTV homes by the end of 2007 receive HD programming in some form or other. Not that I really feel like defending an AC, but that study only covers payed HD programming. My mother, father, and in-laws all own HDTVs, but they don't pay for any programming. I'm assuming they're not the only ones getting their HDTV fix from OTA sources. For that study you'd have to compare that 6 million to the number of people who receive cable or satellite TV. Or you could just go to Nielsen, and see the number is about 14%, which is still well below what the CEA states.

Just wait until those congress approved free HDTV checks start coming in the mail later this spring...that should give a nice bump to those HD adoption numbers.

Bad analogy. Not that this one is much better, but this would be like buying a TV that claims it plays digital broadcasts, but then doesn't play ATSC broadcasts. If the manufacturer didn't implement the BD+ properly in their player, it's not the content providers fault that the player doesn't process the BD+. Just like it's not your local NBC broadcaster's fault that your TV doesn't properly display ATSC, even though it might work with DVB/T just fine.

I can agree on the genericized language being corrected, but saying something "functions as a hard drive" really isn't that far off the mark. An iPod and a hard drive can be mounted via:

    mount -t ext2 /dev/sda2 /mnt/drive

I'd say that the iPod is definitely functioning as a hard drive would; it's a mountable device that stores data.
