Wait, you mean the activation that I did through Cingular's website 2 years ago in about 10 minutes, without installing extra applications? Does that 1/5 the time include the time it takes to install iTunes?
Opera Mobile functions well enough, but I too am waiting for OM9. It handles pages very similarly to IE Mobile, but does a better job of rendering them for the phone. Opera removed the "Opera Mobile Version 9 coming soon!" from their page, and since it was announced about a year ago I have a bad feeling of it got shelved. For normal browsing Opera Mini just works so much better. Opera Mini doesn't secure the connection from your phone to their servers though, so anything involving a login I usually use Opera Mobile for. It does have a 30 day free trial with it, so it's worth a try.
Both Minimo and Opera Mobile have native tabbed browsing, and addons can be installed to give IE Mobile tabs. Tabs work even better on a mobile device than a desktop to me, especially if you're stuck on an EDGE connection. If you're reading a page and want to view the next, just open it in a new tab and let it stream in while you're finishing on the first page. Yes, you can run into memory issues if you're running several tabs with pictures enabled, but that's not a really a software fault.
This is a whole different ballpark. Congratulations, you are correct. They're not doing a direct port FF1.0 to WM. While Minimo was nowhere near the best mobile browser I've used, it worked well enough, and my phone never complained about running out of memory while using it.
FTA:
Reliability is easier to overcome since the Internet is getting more reliable, and if the hardware is cheap enough, I can just get two wireless interface cards, with different carriers, and the computer will load-balance across those links. Nope, he's talking direct desktop to WAN connections. Maybe I'm not thinking far enough outside the box, but I can't think of any good reasons (that don't come with several bad reasons) to actually ditch a LAN for a WAN connection.
You admitted that you didn't even RTFA before asking, your question is covered in TFA, and you said you were about to read it. Kinda like asking a mechanic how much oil your car takes while you start to open the car's manual.

My head still hurts from the shaking camera! Would you say it's better or worse than the last few Bourne movies, both in terms of plain shakiness and how badly it confuses the scene?
Sounds almost like the game we used in 6th grade to practice typing. You had a sentence to type out, and the faster/more accurately you typed, the farther you went in the maze. Type too slowly, and you lost. Can't remember the name of it either...
You don't think that message will come across when people have to acquire and install a second word processor/spreadsheet/presentation program? I don't know about you, but I tend to get irritated if I have to have multiple programs installed that essentially perform the same task.
Doh, sorry man...I swear it's on the menu there! Last on the list under their draft beer section. You'd think they could change the damn menu if they never have it like every other restaurant does.
Hah, no idea...I was there either Dec 21st or the 22nd. Maybe they get it as part of a country wide corporate deal...they've got it printed in their menu though, so i assume its a permanent thing. Enjoy!
Somehow i completely missed those signs heh. if you're dying for a yuengling (i just got back from PA, good stuff), they serve it on tap at the ruby tuesdays off galaxie/42.
I thought you were talking about Blue Max off 42 there for a minute. That's the only place I've been to in the area that uses them, which is too bad given their selection.
Yeah, totally. Oh wait, the DOD funded the development of the Internet, advanced wireless communications, GPS, tons of medical advances, and numerous other projects that you probably benefit from. It's not all death and destruction you know. Personally, I'm happier to see the advancements in medical treatment than I am the pretty pictures.
I'm gonna guess it isn't free to design the upgrades, manufacture parts, test the upgrades, do any redesign, etc. Have you seen the kind of labs needed to produce something that is supposed to sit in orbit for several years? They can't exactly put these things together in the Home Depot parking lot.
Why would you have to purchase your movies again? This isn't VHS to DVD. Both format's players have the ability to play DVDs in one convenient unit. Heck, they even do some crazy up converting to make your old DVDs look better!
If a/. majority were commercially significant at the scale we're looking at, then few would know who Microsoft was. Oh yeah, I forgot no one on/. owns an Xbox, my bad.
People that slashdot readers know aren't a good model of the population at large. Probably a good point. In my defense, most of my friends/relatives/etc aren't overly tech savvy, although several of them own HDTVs. Most of them just wanted a big screen TV, not really caring if it was HD or not. They all know there is a new format, and complained about it being like betamax (both my dad & father in-law bet on Betamax in the late 70s), so they're at least aware of it. Anecdotal evidence for sure, but I know they're all waiting for the new VHS to come out on top before choosing.
True, but how many people do you know that were waiting for one format to win before buying? Pretty much everyone I know was waiting, and every time this topic comes up there are dozens of posts saying the same.
The iPod Touch does not use a hard drive to store data. It's flash memory based.
Seriously, how nit-picky do you need to get? Do you remind people that they're not really burning a DVD, but merely heating the dye on the disc?

Fail.

Except I can uninstall updates made to IE.
My D: drive would like to disagree with you on the scale...although I haven't noticed a big impact. Guess I'll find out tomorrow morning.
Because they sign your paychecks?

Is that why they show senior citizens playing Wii Sports in their commercials?
So does that mean people who work in law offices that use word perfect really enjoy using multiple word processors?
