Any going to ask why the military is doing this? I can tell you. See when the recruiters show up to career day, staff at schools tends to tell them to get lost. They are deigned the same access to students to talk about what they can do that is given to some of the worlds largest polluters, and strong arm monopoly holders. Do you think that if they got fair access even just most of the time that this would not need to be done? Like it or not we need a strong military and the attitude toward military service from the public education system is repulsive to the point that congress is forced to pass laws that seem offensive in return. If you want to point fingers, go to school tomorrow and tell you kinds principle that you are for equal rights for everyone, not just institutions that s/he thinks are expectable.
If the military is only going after the poor kids then why are the vast majority of those serving in the military today from middle class families?
The answer is that groups that tend to be anti-military like public school teachers, secondary school teachers, Collage teachers, and the media in the US wants you to believe that the system is designed to be hurtful or discriminatory. It's in fact a lie that everyone seems to buy in to.
You should read a little history. The Boston tea party and the like where caused by the British choosing to stop taxing things. This causes 'partiots' to rebel because their business (Smuggling tea and the like) was now being undercut by the British goods sold free of tax.
The quartering act, was followed up in our consitution with a system that allowed military personel to be quartered in private houses, and we also allowed for the draft (And did it for almost every major war after becoming free from our opressors)
I swear sometimes that/. people are so left leaning they are unable to see anything on the right side let alone except that sometimes things are done for good reasons.
Your totally wrong in this. First off there is no standard for security in building codes. There are lots of things for safty and stability but not security. Building code does care what door knob you put on your door if any at all. (Fire code aside for the moment). Beyond that, even if you leave the door off, if someone comes into your house and takes something they are responcible. They stole something, there where trespassing. A contractor might find themselves in court for falure to mount the door but not for the break in. How does this confuse you? There would be no problem with security if not for the guy taking stuff. Get it?
How much people want to bitch about the big guy. We run hundreds and hundreds of MS servers here at work, all of our expernal facing servers are MS (Mostly win2k) with a little bit of time and effort we have mannaged to never be hacked in the 8 years I have been working here while getting several million hits a day.
As to patch numbers, it was silly for MS to do apples to peachs like that but lets be honest. Linux destros release as many crittical patches as MS does each year.
As to those that love to pull out the 'security through obfuscation' line seem to always forget that the biggest target is the one that gets attacked. So when speaking of Linux maybe we could call it 'security through being unused' or 'security through being a small target'. What are they going to do when Linux really does become a big player and the hackers and script kiddies really go after linux?
Why can't you guys just settle with the idea that MS has improved their security and stability to the point where they easily match or beat just about any OS out there? Sure it took them longer than it should have but you really should stop bashing on MS for products no one uses anymore and is totally out of date. (Last I checked the Ford T was not much of a car in todays market)
Has everyone forgotten about this word. While using a MS product might mean that you are infringing on someones patent somewhere, MS will protect you in court if someone sues you over it. Which of the Linux guys is doing that?
I am not saying linux is bad or MS is good before I get flamed here. I am just saying when it comes to lawsuites MS has something to offer that I don't think is offered anywhere in the OpenSource world.
My ReplayTV auto-skips Commercials. I own it already and personally I am going to be pissed if something I bought legally with a understanding of the features it included is changed or outlawed because someone can't come up with a good business that does not include me waisting 50% of my time watching stuff about products I don't want.
