ssh.. Don't give them ideas!! Seriously though... that would just be sick. Then again... it wouldn't matter much.. Since the attacks seem to last only a few hours... and most DNS servers cache stuff longer than that... and with proprogranation the answer it finds most likely isn't going to be at a root server.. it would be an inconvience.. but certainly wouldn't affect all DNS (gotta love the net:))
11:31PM EST Altavista is accessible... but slow as heck. Looks like we're right in the middle of watching the next site to get added to the long list to date.
What's California's tax? I don't know off the top of my head.. but I'm sure on $450 of goods, the tax could easily be $30:P (boy if this wasn't slightly off-topic.. heh)
Ok.. here's my domain woe story... ok.. My school starts an internet program.. we get our computers late and get delayed on buying the domain. Some dood who owns a two-bit local computer repair shop buys the domain (has nothing to do with his business) obviously just to use the name to increase traffic to his business. I e-mail him saying how we wanted to the domain for school, yadda yadda yadda... he says if we put a banner on the page he'll let us use the domain. I say whatever just so I can get the domain..I agree (all this is being done by e-mail). I submit the change request, and I'm not down for technical, zone, administration, billing, and replaced his registration address with mine. Now... I told the school they could do this deal with the guy and use the domain (I neglected to mention I already went ahead with it) and they decided they couldn't do it because it would be like a coperate sponser, yadda yadda yadda... now the guy wants his domain back; I really still want the domain. From the start I felt he shouldn't be able to have it since it's the first two words of the school's name.. it has nothing to do with his business (besides the fact he's in the school district), and he just bought it to increase traffic to his company. Do I or the school have any legal right to stop him from thinking he's allowed to have it? does he even still have any precedence since he transfered the domain to me? can he sue me? was a contract by e-mail legal? (also since I'm a minor?) What can/should I do!? (Domain games SUCK! I also had another incident where a pharmacutical company had a domain in limbo that I wanted, and after it was freed and before I got it.. some guy bought it.. and used it for webhosting just like I wanted to do! so I bought up the.org and.net.. but he still has the.com.. grrr)
I'm actually very pleased with SuSE 6.1! I 've tried RedHat, Debian and slackware, and this is the first distro that I was able to get X windows running (thanks much in part to the manual). Since then I've customised, gone throught the tons of programs in yast, uninstalling ones I didn't want, installing stuff that looked neat, I've downloaded other things, and it's been overall an awesome experience. My only complaint to date is that it doesn't come with glibc 2.1.x as many programs I'd like to install require this, and I'm just outta luck:(. Also maybe comming with the latest gtk would be nice also. I'll be there when 6.2 ships!
I submitted an article to slashdot the other day about an article over at internetnews.com about the domain change, and how many people were upset. It wasn't posted, but I still think it's pretty good. I also noticed today that there's another article concerning how ICANN and NTIA aren't happy with Network Solutions, and also whether or not Network Solutions is violating their agreement with ICANN. NTIA and ICANN may also be good sources to voice opinions to concerning this sudden change Network Solutions has performed.
I'm a bigtime fan of slackware, and I was a little dissapointed when I downloaded the latest slackware 3.6 to find it had old versions of the x server, kernel, and many other little programs. I can't get into cdrom.com, it's packed, has anyone downloaded it? If so do you know if it comes with the latest x server, along with various other utilities? I'm sure it has, but I'd just like to be sure before I invest my 56K modem to a day long downloading adventure. Also, are there any major changes, considering it's moved to 4.x series?
Wow, what an ingenious comment, do you want bonus points for repeating info everyone already knows, and is sick of hearing? Hasn't anyone noticed everyone dwells on the negatives of everything? Every new thing that comes out with mp3s, the RIAA is suing them for it immediatly, and everyone screams that it promotes illegal mp3s. Just because we want to listen to mp3s on our home stereos is not implying we will be listening to ILLEGAL mp3s. Or have you forgotten all the budding artists and bands that have swarmed to the internet and the mp3 format to distribute their music LEGALLY, and to large audiences. If you have something relevant, and meaningful to say about new technology, fine. Otherwise keep it to yourself, we're all tired of seeing pessimists at every corner.

Here's a good How-To for glibc, might come in handy for those of you deciding to try slackware 4.0, and wanting to setup glibc.
