  1. But he broke American Immigration Law on Peter Adekeye Freed, Judge Outraged At Cisco's Involvement · · Score: 1

I find it offensive that this guy could form a company (Multiven), employ himself, and then file for an H-1B visa for himself. That is not supposed to be allowed under the enabling law. It appears to me that ICE caught on to this, and when they investigated Multiven, they found that he was in fact sponsoring himself -- which was the reason that all of his visas were revoked. That being said -- there is no doubt that Cisco is acting like a punk in this case -- somehow they found a useful idiot to perform for them, and they trumped up a bunch of civil charges.

I think it is wonderful that everyone has an idea of how to be more energy efficient. However, according to most analysts -- doing this in a northern area will not save that much energy because of the loss of heat in the winter. It definitely would work in the south -- heck, the south should use cisterns and white roofs like in Bermuda, so they can use the water from rain runoff also...

  5. Re:Protection of the tech jobs market on Judge Rejects H-1B Visa Injunction · · Score: 1

What makes you think that indentured servants are going to spend their money here? There is ample evidence to show that H1B holders have a tendency to live together to save expenses, and repatriate most of their earnings to accounts and family in their home country. Even worse, there have been cases filed against TCS, where it has been shown that TCS requires the remittance of Income Tax refunds from the US, further reducing the spendable income that imported labor has at their disposal. So importing more workers, and reducing the wages of Americans will more than likely not increase the tax revenues or improve the economy...

  6. Massachusetts Travel Regulations are ridiculous on Peter J. Quinn Investigated for Travel Omissions · · Score: 2, Informative

The issue here is not one of Mr. Quinn being on the take. I can assure you he is not. In fact, Mr. Quinn believes very seriously in the effort that he has undertaken, and will fight it to the end.

The real issue here is the antiquated regulations regarding travel in the Commonwealth. I know, because I worked there 20 years ago, and the regulations were antiquated then, and have never been amended to take into account today's business environment.

Basically, the regs state that all employees that travel out of state have to have the permission of their supervisor, and once they have that, they have to pay for the travel themselves, unless they are on a speaking engagement. Even then, they cannot accept payment for the travel if there is a potential that the sponsor would be doing business with the state. These rules were primarily created to make it difficult to ask for approval. And if you did pay for the travel yourself, you were sure to be notified by the Legislature the next year that this obviously discretionary spending would be removed from your budget -- good luck ever getting the State to pay for any travel.

Mr. Quinn had signed approval of at least 5 trips. The signoff was from the former Secretary of Administration and Finance, who recently left government. It was this Secretary that was leading the fight against Microsoft, and Mr. Quinn was fulfilling this Secretary's wishes. Why he didn't get approval for all 12 trips -- who knows? But what does it really matter? All of the trips were for speaking engagements at conferences where there was no clear single sponsor. That being the case, why shouldn't Mr. Quinn allow the sponsor to pay for the travel? It saves money for the taxpayers, and provides exposure to what other entities are doing to implement Open Source.

It's obvious to me that this was a hack job by lobbyists -- something that Microsoft made clear during an open hearing with Mr. Quinn regarding the State's open source philosophy that they were very willing to undertake.

  7. Massport Management is Corrupt on WiFi At Logan Airport Leads To Turf War · · Score: 1

This is pretty much what I would expect from Massport management. They are the most corrupt and consumer-unfriendly managers of any airport anywhere in the world. Rather than be supportive of their airlines, which they are losing at a good clip, they decide instead to ask for a little 'protection money' by getting the free services to use their pay service. Remember -- this is the same group that gave over $800K worth of bonuses to already highly paid managers, rather than use it to improve the toll gates that they use at their parking garages, or the Tobin Bridge (don't even ask how they got control of the most important bridge in Boston). And then they use the 'safety' story to justify it. As if Logan even cares about safety, given that half the planes on 9/11 took off from there. They're going to use their incompetence to get more money out of paying passengers -- what a joke!
