What? Las Vegas has to be about one of the most technologically backwards cities in the US. A very poor tech market indeed, and as a special bonus, low pay. One of my network engineer friends out here recently had to move to Arkansa because THEY had more of a tech field than Las Vegas.

Take it from a resident.. Las Vegas != Technology.

Perhaps, but the water table is 1000 feet below the planned waste storage location, which is also 1000 feet below the surface. Besides, even if the water table were to rise, there are man made barriers to prevent it from touching the waste.. First the tunnel itself, and if that's comprimised the waste container itself was designed with many layers of corrosion resistant materials to contain the waste safely for ten thousand years..

Besides, even if the water system were contaminated, Nevada gets it's water from Arizona.. It's just the Californian's who have to worry ::grin::

Cheap old cisco router?? what are you on drugs? A cisco 2500 doesn't go for cheap and it's older technology.. you could easily buy a new PIII system for the same price range. Also Cisco IOS 11.3 and above support NAT, etc.. so why bother? Yes it is a cool idea.. I'll probably try it out just for the hell of it, but you can trust I'll be putting Cisco IOS back on there after the novelty wore off.

I think the year based version system is bad, as products do not get updated once a year... hell I've come out with 7 new revisions to my program in the past few months.

However, when it comes to getting a worth while response from someone or some company, you cannot help but beat a actual physical letter. e-mail means nothing and can easily be blown off. However for someone to take the time and write a letter and mail it, they have to take notice.

What we use is a hybrid system which backs everything up to disk quickly, then durring the day moves things off to tape. ADSM by IBM. When you have a dozen large UN*Xen boxes, about 60+ NT servers, and a dozen Novell servers, scattered about on different properties, it's the only way to do things.

We were running into the 16million record database size limitation on Arcserve, and also our backups were not finishing in time. ADSM, while rather expensive, was a job saver.

You could surely do something similar with the available free GNU utilities, and some smart perl scripting.

  20. CD's? on Help save the Kosmic Free Music Foundation · · Score: 1

They did ask for donations, but for those who also want to feel they have 'gotten' something for their money they can order some CDs as well. Of course one of the great things about KFMF is that you can download all their music online, and not have to buy anything. The CDs are cool because not only do they look and sound cool, it saves the time to download a gig+ worth of data.

CD's cost about a buck or so to produce in mass, so they are still making some money to put towards server hardware/bandwidth, and $12 for a CD is still a good price considering all the music you get.
