  1. Good thing! on Linux Distro turns PCs into Night-time Clusters · · Score: 2, Interesting

    Now I hope that SETI and those other protein folding projects can really get a boost. Who knows? A company which is carrying out its own research may actually be helping its competitor giving it the processing power in the nighttime! And what about i/p stuff, if someone makes a new finding will it be credited to the computer or to the whole cluster ? I think these have to be sorted out first. These issues have not come up partly because SETI and others have not found out anything significant yet. But who knows. that day might just be tomorrow!

  3. how could they be wrong? on Batterylife Activator Reviewed · · Score: 5, Interesting

    Well, he says that big institutions like Osaka University, NTT DoCoMo have certified this sticker. How could the BatteryLife people have managed to get this certification. Isnt someone smelling foul play or something? Cant they be sued over this?

    Well said. But maybe the number of people reading slashdot in india are not that less. In my institute ( Indian Institute Of Technology, Bombay) many students are just glued to slashdot(me being one of them). Also your statement

    " You need emotional maturity to carry you through life. " was just on the spot. Here also I have found many bright students getting their lifes wasted due to lack of public skills.

  5. why only beta on Are Betas Taking On Lives of Their Own? · · Score: 0

    The term beta came from the second letter of the greek alphabet. But then why only stop till the second stage of software development ? Why not go to Gamma, Eta ,etc then we wont be seeing beta products for long. Maybe w'll start seeing GMail Zeta sometimr soon...

  6. Really BIG Gamble on Airbus Launches 800 Passenger Jumbo Jet · · Score: 1, Interesting

    a $16 billion wager that airlines will order giant aircraft to ferry passengers between major airports over the next 20 years I think Airbus is making a really big assumption there. Dont we remember how the Concorde had to be retired due to almost no demand but high cost of running? And what if another September 11 incident occurs and knocks the airlines out of business again? Then surely Airbus will be in a big, big trouble...bigger than their plane

  7. good thing on Creative Gunning For the iPod · · Score: 0, Interesting

    The 100$ price difference will surely force apple to rethink their prices. Hope their iPod dosent repeat what happened to their Mac's when PC's came to the market. Apple should take care for that. Also any way the battle turns out, its party time for the consumers!

  9. why should i give my computer? on New and Improved SETI · · Score: -1

    i was just wondering that why should i join the seti program and give away my computer time to them when i could do something useful with my *wasted* cycles? i for example keep my comp the whole day and keep it for virus scanning at night so there are no wasted cycles on my comp. even if they were would i get something if i uncode a message like "hello ppl of the earth" ? if they dole out cash prizes then how come there have been no false alarms uptill now?

    so does this mean we can expect someone to listen to our mobile phones and start spamming messages filling my inboxes?

  11. slashdot==firefox? on NYTimes Reports on Firefox · · Score: 1

    i have just been wondering that does slashdot implies firefox and vice versa? i shifted to firefox after reading on slashdot and i now see many more of firefox users. Also there is a bug reported in firefox that caters to only slashdot rendering. So does this mean, Geek==Slashdot==Firefox? has anyone done a poll on the browsers used among slashdot users?

    i think that cold is a great advantage u have rather than a downfall. it could have been much worse if u were in a hot land. being in a cold place means u can overclock it as much as u like it. i had once seen a video in which using liquid nitrogen(!) put on top of a 1Ghz intel pentium chip they had over clocked it to 5Ghz! so if u overclock it enough maybe google might want to hire ur server;)
