I think you can have a bad experience with a laptop from any manufacturer - in the same way that even premium automakers still make the odd lemon.
I've always had good experiences with Toshiba laptops, but the Dell ones that my work purchasing dept insists on buying? Yech.

I have a set of the ER-6i in-ear headphones and all I can say is... Wow. They're not cheap, but the sound quality difference is amazing.
