  1. Pick the better Co-op program on Computer Science or Info Tech? · · Score: 1

Heres my opinion. Pick the one with the better co-op (internship) program. Work experience is worth is weight in gold, my friend.

Also, if you want to be a hot commodity in the market, pick the program that offers topics on SDLC (software development life cycle or just software engineering), OO programming, networking, operating systems, algorithms (very important), database (also extremely important), web dev and MIS (managing information systems).

Personally, I would strongly recommend you taking these topics no matter what you decide to do. Whether you decide to become a game programmer, a systems analyst, a project manager, or any other role in the IT industry for that matter, the topics listed above will greatly aid your career. You'll just have to trust me on this one, I guess, but once you get your first co-op job, it will become a lot clearer.

Finally and most importantly, what ever path you decide to choose make sure you enjoy it!

In a simple world this would work. Unfortunately, kids will play with other kids that have bad parents. Simply being a good parent in no ways will prevent a child from gaining access to things that are inappropriate. Its sad though that we live in a world that even requires us contemplating these ridiculous laws.

Or that N Korea operatives and simpithizers have infiltrated every level of S. korean society, particularly the education system, molding the new generation away from the the traditional pro US stance and into a pro N. Korea stance. Think its far fetched? Live there for awhile and it will make alot more sense then your typical neo-con arguments only seen through american lenses. Maybe you'll also see how equally scary the other end of the spectrum really is.

I'd like to know why Colin Powell wasn't before than U.N. making the case for the imminent development of nuclear weapons in North Korea instead of the case for the nuclear program in Iraq, which as I recall even then we believed was still many years from producing a nuclear weapon?

Because attacking N Korea would have meant destablizing the economic powers of China, S. Korea and Japan, which in turn would have caused massive unemployment and an economic depression in the US.

I bet ya that if we dropped slashdotters in the African wilderness, they would still be on the menus of some of natures meanest beasts... add to that the fact that many here devolved and lost their sociable characteristics and BAM!.. bottom of the food chain.

According to the guy at Shell Canada, there might be potentially 2 trillion barrels of oil there. However, most of it can't me mined cost effectively... yet.

The good news is that we will be "forced" to rediscover local agriculture and commerce. No more "made in China" stickers on our locally made goods, and craftspeople will regain the stature they once had. Just remember that suburban "starter mansions" will be the slums of the future -- to expensive to heat, too far from shops, farmland and gathering places to be worth inhabiting. My advice? Learn blacksmithing in your spare time.

It seems like everyone on slashdot has seen the documentary, "The End of Suburbia". I keep seeing the exact same statements that seem to be taken right off the movie. Not to say it wasn't a good documentary but it gets depressing when so many believe it to be the absolute truth. If you never watched it and it just happened to be a coincidence.. my humble apologies.

  9. Survey of 1000 music buyers on iPod Owners Not Thieves · · Score: 1

If you read the report, it states that the survey was done on 1000 music buyers. Unless I'm mistaken, this seems to be a skewed report or, at the very least, a report exaggerated by the media. I'm pretty sure that if the survey was done on 1000 mp3 player buyers the numbers would be much different.

FYI morals and definitions usually do change quicker than the laws that define them. For example, the Supreme Court of Canada did not define a women as a person until 1929. Should the people who did define a women as a person prior to the ruling be considered idiots or morons as well? What about the definition of marriage? Are gay rights activist idiots for going agaist prior court rulings? If you want to defend your beliefs that music sharing is morally right, go for it, but don't try to hide behind past court rulings (Was there even file sharing back then?) to belittle others who have views that doesn't match yours.

  12. Another round of faulty logic boards? on New iBooks 'Any Day Now' · · Score: 4, Informative

I really can't understand why people still drool over this POS hardware. FYI the logic board problems have not been resolved yet. The G4 iBooks are plagued with the exact same logic board problems as the G3s. This wouldn't be that bad if the G4s were covered under Apple's recall program but unfortunately they're are not. It will probably take another class action before they even acknowledge the problem. I seriously hope that Apple have learned from their past mistakes and have designed a completely new logic board for this iBook update. If not, be prepared for another round of whacky trackpads and dead screens.
