  1. Think Different on Newton's Ghost Haunts Apple's iPhone · · Score: 1

I always find it interesting when Apple, or another progressive company, does something and the first thing out of the "experts" mouth is... "they should be doing what X or Y is doing to succeed". And I can't help but think that's exactly the reason so many companies fail to stand out in the crowd.

I've always looked at jobs this way. It's a business contract between to parties. You agree to work, they agree to pay you. If and when either party decides that the agreement is no longer satisfactory, they can terminate the agreement.

It's really that simple. I once worked for a company that shut the doors at our branch with no notice whatsoever. We all came to work and the boss was there with a lock for the door. He told us we had 30 minutes to get our stuff and go home. You know, that's the way it goes sometimes. I have never held a grudge about it. And so if I find a better opportunity that is going to make me happier, or provide my family with a better income, I'm gone folks. No hard feelings.

Don't feel bad about being escorted out, that's a common practice in every IT shop I've worked for. A disgruntled IT employee can do a lot of damage in two weeks.

As for the lawsuit, sounds like a load of crap to me. What are you, an indentured servant?

  4. Re:What a farce on Apple Sued Over iTunes UI · · Score: 1

I did RTFA. My personal opinion is that if you don't develop your product, you shouldn't be allowed to keep others from doing so. Showing a mock up at a trade show and then sitting on it for 10 years is hardly developing a product. But my whole point is that the a patent is defined as: "A government grant of exclusive rights in a novel, nonobvious, and ornamental industrial design." Simply ordering existing UI elements in a way that reflects basic and commonly used methods for cataloging music, is not "nonobvious" in my opinion.

Who gives these people the right to "create" a totally vague, ambiguous, and obvious "idea", then fail to actually create anything of substance utilizing that "idea" and then sue others for doing the same thing? Oh... our government.

  6. Re:Another giant step backward... on The Pseudoscience of Intelligent Design · · Score: 1

I fully agree with those who think that evolution and intelligent design are not mutually exclusive. I think it's perfectly reasonable that an intelligent God could create the earth in a way that it can evolve and adapt. The thing that bugs me most about this whole story is that these groups that supposedly want "separation of church and state" are really doing nothing but trying to stifle freedom of speech and freedom of thought. The Constitution says that government cannot ESTABLISH a religion. This was done because the church pretty much ran government way back when and persecuted those who believed differently. So this does not mean that schools cannot study religion and religious ideas. What it means is that schools cannot pick a religion and force people to believe and punish them if they don't. I don't think that talking about the possibility of intelligent design violates that separation whatsoever.

I agree to a certain extent with this statement. I love computers, but when I get home all my computing time is fun time. No work, no money, nothing but personal enjoyment. So the question was side jobs... I'm a musician. I play in two bands and make some fun money that way. Whip
