Dual Athlon 64 fx-55 processors 2000 Top of the line graphics card 500 4 GB ram 1500 (I think, my system only has 512mb) mobo say 500 Peripherals 100 So we end up with 4600 dollars. May be more than the top of the line macs, but it's much, much faster. The fx-55s are better, the graphics card is better, the ram is better, it's all better.
1) The current top-of-the-line Power Mac is not a high-end computer. 2) You can buy a much more powerful x86 computer for far less than $3000. 3) Macs suck.
By "I don't have a graphics card" I didn't mean you were runnig a server or what have you that doesn't require one, I meant that you were using the integrated one that comes on the motherboard.
Stop thinking in terms of computers. You can't apply any notion of "processing power" to the human mind. It's not one grand unified "thinking machine", it has individual parts that do different things. What you just described, in terms of a computer, would be like saying "I don't have a graphics card, would that make my CPU run faster because the machine isn't wasting processing power on the graphics card?" As you can see, this is absurd.

I don't really know a lot about autistic savants or encryption technologies, so this may sound idiotic, but if these guys can so easily factor large numbers why don't they have them working for NSA breaking public-key encryption?
CSS still serves a purpose, believe it or not. The average Joe Sixpack Moviewatcher doesn't know DeCSS exists, all he knows is that the movie companies have some kind of magic to make it so he can't copy his DVDs. Just like Safedisk 2 it's an insanely easy to break copy protection scheme, but it stops a *lot* of copying by home userns who don't know what they're doing.
This is offtopic and I'm karma burning, yeah, but you all just have to read this, it's 1337 the microsoft way... one of the funniest things I have read in a long time.

Who needs fancy things like PGP? I encrypt all my sensitive data in ROT-13, and it hasn't been cracked yet!
