    The military uses a system very close to this. The most common evals give are EP (Early Promote, the best), MP (Must Promote, the one nearly everyone gets) and P (Promotable). But as we're locked in contracts and it's quite hard to get fired, the number one thing commanding officers are graded upon is retention. So what happens when you've got a very high performer who makes it known he won't be reenlisting? He'll be given that MP or dreaded P. What happens to that fuckup who swears he loves the Navy and will reenlist? He gets that EP no matter what.

    Rather than being a system which rewards the most able, it only entrenches more anger and dissatisfaction with this false meritocracy.

    The ABM Treaty was signed between with the USSR - not Russia. The USSR no longer exists. We're free to do as we please. But feel free to continue to ignore history as it suits your anti-American narrative. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Russia trying to keep it's old sphere of influence.

    I enlisted under what the navy calls Advanced Electronics Computer Field. I expected to actually, ya know, work on advanced electronics or computers. Was I in for a shock. Instead, I wasted my early and mid 20's working on 1970's era comm gear. The computer I spent the most time on was the UYK-20 which actually had a PAPER TAPE as the primary method of input. I actually envisioned working on modern equipment. The newest piece of gear I got to work on was the R-2368 receiver.

    God I wish I could sue the navy for false advertising. Fuck them.

    Right on. But this huge cultural change you speak of will not happen unless 95% of teachers and 89% of reporters stop being card carrying democrats (or worse). That means eradicate the NAACP, NEA, etc. There will be no progress until then.

    So you're a BSD fan yet know so little about recent history? To be accurate, BSDI merged with Walnut Creek, changed its name to BSDi and donated the prototype BSDi BSD/OS 5.0 kernel code to the FreeBSD Project.

    Completely wrong. It was more than a year ago when WindRiver took over BSDi. And BSD/OS was a pretty bigtime product many, many years ago. Microsoft used it extensively before it ate its own dogfood with NT. Initially, BSDI's product was called BSD/386; not to be confused with 386/BSD. I have no idea why this was moderated-up. Oh wait, its simple-minded, infantile, liberal Linux zealots with no concern for accuracy.
