This is true, but what about math as related to thinking skills? Many math concepts can be used in other areas, not just in math. Learning to use math concepts helps other thinking proccesses, such as conceptualization, analyzation, and problem solving.
You have to admit that this has more elements of truth in it than most vote-rigging stories circulating the 'net have, but it still has too many holes for me to seriously consider it. In my opinion it's probably some sort of political scheme.
We also have to consider the fact that there are going to be many different kinds of vote-rigging stories circulated after such a close election as this one was. Most are complete bullshit, some mix the bullshit with a few facts, and some are actually true. But with so many of them going around, it's hard to sort out the serious ones from the others.
It's not that Microsft has failed in general security, it's that they just DO NOT CARE about your average Windows user. I mean, why should they? Like linguae said, the majority of users are conditioned to accept instability and insecurity to the point where they just don't care EVEN THOUGH a bit of caution on their part would solve MOST of the problems (get an anti-virus, firewall, adaware, spybot, etc etc etc.) And Microsoft is a big company, too. A juggernaut, really. Who's going to stop it now?
As long as most Windows users are sheep, M$ will continue to churn out insecurity and instability. The only way Microsoft is going to change the way it does things is if the sheep turn into wolves and start attacking it on these issues.
Will they? I'unno. EVENTUALLY, but it might be too late at that point.
...with all these WONDERFUL tools we have at our disposal, somehow EVERY group project ALWAYS has to use a Powerpoint presentation to get their messages across. It's really annoying.
"I know that these actions will be controversial in this age when we still think the Internet is a free and open society with no control or accountability," he told an information-technology security conference in Washington, "but ultimately the Wild West must give way to governance and control."
Translation: There are too many people that find freedom on the internet. Let's take that away from them and monitor everything they do on the internet, saying it's in the interests of national security, just like the PATRIOT act is, even though it violates privacy rights!
So folks, the question here is whether you want the internet we have now, which admittedly is sometimes a big pain in the ass, OR a government controlled, restricted internet where you're always being watched.

I myself opt for what we have now.
