Has anybody heard anything about the Compaq WL series?? http://www.compaq.com/products/wlan/index.html is the website for it and from the looks of it, seems pretty cool! Anyone know if it is supported under linux though??
In order to overclock an Athlon, you actually have to take apart the container the chip is in and (de)solder connections. So, for your average company that would overclock chips in the first place to charge extra for a faster processor, I really doubt that the cost of overclocking it is worth the extra money they'd get out of it.
Kryotech does sell a case just for that. I can't remember what they say it'll drop the temp to in your case, but I do know it's no where near the -40 (due to condenstation).
Isn't it amazing what companies release right before the holidays??? My wife thought I was nuts when I wanted teh $200 Lego Mindstorms set...now she's gonna have a heart attack when I tell her I want a $800(approx, they said less than $10/hour and it holds 81 hours) MP3 player!
Hmm...correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was said(maybe a year or so ago) it was LEGAL to export encryption source code in non-electronic form (ie, on paper). Guess that means whenever you download an open source encryption product, to get the source you have to have it printed out and sent to you. Hope you have good OCR software for your scanner!
I know Microsoft is the big evil empire, but for them, this is something good. If they do in fact take the feed back seriously, and it gets worked into Win2k, it might make it a better product (though, in my opinion, still seriously lacking). No, it's not open source, but it is a step in the right direction. And I for one, am for anything that is going to make better software out there, whether it's from Microsoft, or Linux developers.
Back when I had my 486 I had a Promise caching IDE controller card(2 IDE channels per card for a total of 4 devices). It would allow you to have 2 of those cards in your system(or your onboard controller plus the Promise board). Not exactly sure how it worked, but when I had just the one card in my system it was fast! You could put up to 16MB on the card(I had 4MB and was quite happy with it). Not sure if Promise still makes it, but worth looking into!
Are there any mirrors for this thing? I started a download of it this morning, and it got to 100% and then just froze. I tried installing what it did manage to download and I got errors. So if anyone knows of someplace else it could be downloaded from, I'd appreciate it!
There's a place on the webpage to get a user account if you have a suitable project to run. Hmmm...wonder if they'd consider distributed.net or SETI@home suitable...
Open source software just sounds better and better every day...It just amazes me how much control over the user software companies want. It's almost as bad as the insurance industry! *grin*
Since they use Partition Magic to do the Windows installation of Linux, how are they going to handle people downloading the entire distribution?? Is Powerquest allowing them to put a "Caldera" verion of Partition Magic up for download with the distribution?? And if so, I wonder which features, if any, they won't include in it.
I have a friend that works at AMD and according to him it will be SMP and have a floating point unit comparable to Intels(about damn time!). Of course, you still need a motherboard that supports multiple K-7's. But as soon as that comes out I'm snagging it!
Fonts actually look better on Mozilla than they do on Netscape to me! I checked out your bug report, and I don't have that problem here.
