But choosing.NET is a choice, and whenever anybody does it, I can't help but ask "why?"
I do.NET because that's where the money is. Next question please!
I did a.Net project because one of my clients had existing applications written in VB and they needed them updated to a more current and stable incarnation that could be supported by their programmer. Does this clown think they should have re-done everything? I think we should all chip in to get him a gift certificate to the Asshat Haberdashery.
Why are computer scientists even learning programming? When did this happen? Programming sounds like one of those get-your-hands-dirty jobs in flyover territory, where you would show a lot of ass crack on the job and live in a trailer park. Educated people don't do that.
They need to be able to program for the same reasons management and engineers need to spend some time on the assembly line: so they can learn how things actually work. There's often a wide chasm between "on paper" and "in practice" and ideas need to be able to traverse it.
Agreed... but aren't most modern OS's OO based? In most cases students need OO programming in order to become employable. OO certainly isn't the holly grail of computing but it is entrenched in business and needs to be taught just like COBOL was all those years ago (when I had to learn it even though it was like writing a book every time I wanted to write a small program).
So OO Programming because it's unsuitable for a modern CS curriculum. I guess we should go back to just assembly language so we can make sure we never go down this road of false progress again.
Who here would actually buy a $1000 gadget based solely on a TV ad, without at least looking at the specs and reading some actual reviews first?
I really doubt marketing departments ever consider what/.ers think before thrusting their products on the market. We are not anyone's target demographic unless they are selling something that is extremely technical that comes with both sarcastic and pedantic documentation that no one will read.
Oh, the liar there is whoever named the department, not those who work there!
Support Agent: No sir, we haven't heard of any other reports of spiders coming out of our cell phones. You must have left it somewhere the spiders could get to it.
Customer: What? There are 1,000's of posts about this in your support forums!
Support Agent: We're not responsible for what people post in our forums.
Customer: Hey, look, your CEO is on the news. He's been taken to the hospital with what appears to be a poisonous spider bite!
Support Agent: That's impossible sir. I know for a fact that our CEO uses the model that uses shellfish extract for it's finish and has the random scorpion in the box. He does not use the model that has the spiders in it.
I'm absolutely positively 100% certain that:
* if Nortel was allowed to auction them off they could get more then $11.25 per IP.
* "you're" is not spelled the way you spelled it.
it is so horrible that microsoft are bailing out a bankrupt businss buy buying assets from them for more than what they are worth... allowing the company to pass the money down to employees that have lost wages... i cant think of anything worse
If this was for Nortel's employee's benefit then shouldn't they auction them off instead of selling them to Microsoft? I'm sure they could get more than $11.25 a piece on the open market.
...and when you don't save for retirement, you're gambling with your life. Pick your poison.
Ooh, ohh ... I'll take iocane powder ;-)

How many of their moats can fit in the Library of Congress?
...the Judge's decision. I thought only an Appeals Court can do that, not an AGENCY of the Administration.
In today's America jurisdictions and authority seem to be dynamically defined ... once again IT methodology has creeped beyond its scope.

Is it just me or does this sound like someone has been listening to too much Talking Heads?

I'm a happy Galaxy Tab user, I just don't feel the need to prance around and sing about it.
Then obviously you're not holding it right ;-)
I hear Microsoft data centers use the tears of children to power their generators.
Didn't they just apply for a patent for that?
Call me when it can run Linux.
This means I can get chips in my tin foil hat? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of it?
* "than" is not spelled the way you spelled it.
Well, I didn't dispute the moron accusation so I'm par for the course ;-)
So Android 3.0 isn't exactly 'open source' for the foreseeable future?
Your sure? Absolutely sure? Moron.

Fucking Devils...
But they bought them for the cloud, so shouldn't they be screwing the angels instead of the locals?
So we should text F' You! to mGive.com?
GPL is bad.
Bullshit.
Well, real ghost hunters also use a TWR report.
D'oh! That should be TRW ...
