    Well the Obama admin, seems to have this heart-on for the term of "man made disasters", so I suppose being a pirate and copying something would qualify.

    The term is hard-on. The heart is a completely different part of the body.

    The traditional method of bypassing the UAC has been the average user mindlessly clicking "OK". Have you got a patch for that which does not involve firearms, poisons or BDSM stuff?

    Yes, it's called Linux.

    And I spent five hours last night cleaning up friend's Vista machine. Her husband and her kids have a habit of repeatedly infecting the thing since they are either unwilling or unable to exhibit the slightest discipline when using the Web, and will install anything that's shiny and free.

    I have neighbors like that. After cleaning up after them a few times I charged them my normal rate to clean up their computer. It hasn't been infected since.

    Indeed. I've worked with Objective-C on and off since the pre-OS X 'Rhapsody' days. It's almost like a cruel mix of coding, texting and writing documentation ... all that plus a touch of COBOL's verbosity with a syntax/grammar nazi in its heart. After a while you just want to look a blank screen.

    If everyone knows that all politicians are corrupt and anti-democratic, then why do we never do anything about it?

    Because power and corruption are like radioactivity. Those who want to change things in government are slowly infected as they get closer to power. Once they get elected to a lower office it has already started changing their DNA. By the time they get into a real office or position with power they too are corrupt.

    I would have used a car analogy, but the only one I could think of involved changing a timing belt and that would have led to another argument about metric vs standard/imperial.

    Because it gives you alternatives with plausable deniability, such as Of course I have a six-pack, wanna see it? and Wanna come over tonight and share a six-pack? It will also provide several public apperance and marketing opportunities with politicians who commonly refer to the masses as 'Joe Six-pack'.

    If it's unprotected, as seems to be the case here, then that would be the reasonable assumption.

    To play devil's advocate: the fact that I didn't lock my front door is not a reasonable assumption that I am inviting you to enter my apartment.

    If you left your curtains open and someone saw a video playing on your TV, should he be fined for letting his friends know they could see it through your window?

    I don't think this is about 'innovation', it's about 'improvement' - 'improvement' measured in reduction. Chips that are more efficient and smaller mean more can be packed into a single blade while producing more 'right sized' CPU horsepower, less heat and lower power consumption (for the CPU's as well as the cooling). This 'improvement' is very measurable in resource consumption and cost, making them 'greener' with a faster return on investment. Another big plus is the CPU's are cheaper, and is if one inner board fails it is cheaper to repair/replace.
