At least it wasn't in all italics this time. Oy carumba. If the AC wants to heard so badly he/she can always sign in and put some backbone where his/her font size is.
He's trying to silence his opposition. The truth is not a lie just because El Hefe says it is. And when he's in charge of everything, anything he doesn't like is a lie.
This isn't shocking. In fact, I'm surprised it took him this long. Maybe someone should give Mr Chavez China's number so he can get some first hand tips on how to handle this.
The GPS wasn't measuring traffic, just their trips and the rates charged. It showed they were within the 5 Boroughs but were charging the 'out of town' rates. Nothing to do with traffic, everything to do with greed.
I for one don't want to ever be tracked by GPS or any other technology for any reason. Maybe shady cab drivers and, more importantly, the big corporations that employ them will be unlikely allies in the politics of never being tracked like cattle. I'm sure they hire lobbyists and legally bribe congresscritters like every other sizable corporation. Guess every cloud DOES have a silver lining.
The vast majority of taxis in NYC are from small shops or independents. And most taxi drivers could never get hired by larger corporations... they are simply a unique animal.
I, too, am unsure how this differs from other new local db storage techniques.
Since they couldn't decide on what version of SQL dialect to use for Web SQL they're abandoning it for this new and improved idea developed by someone at Oracle. With Oracle's attitudes about licensing how could this be anything but the perfect solution?
What's missing, by the way, in my opinion, to make these REALLY useful, is a simple javascript call to determin if you are currently web connected, something like isNetConnected() found in some applications. This would let you customize the option you present to the user (ie, you can only sync your data when you're web connected).
For this I generally use an XMLHttpRequest for a tiny file. If I get my "200" I'm connected, if I don't I'm not.
Are you kidding me? I don't even RTFA's here (I barely skim the summaries) and you want me to read a W3.org document, the 'drying paint' of the internet? Thanks, but I'll wait for/. to do a story on it, TYVM.
Just a little more duct tape will fix it. No need for a clean state redesign. With enough kludging, ever increasing performance of local clients and Internet connections, we'll make it work and look just like a local app did ten years ago. Some day.

Apu: Please do not mock the power of duct tape. These are forces beyond the understanding of mere mortals.
Lack of one leads to the other. I'm sure he'll figure it out... I hope.
Since the actual problem hasn't been identified yet, who knows if all Toyotas have it or just a select few? Maybe it's a date/time bug? Integer overflow bug? I don't know what the problem is, but I know where it is and I'm not willing to put my family at risk in order to secure a deal on a car that may be more dangerous than most.
Exactly. Even a minor revision in a FPGA could result in unforeseen consequences. Who knows, maybe a chip manufacture failed to document a very small change to a product line (or had a typo in the docs). The problem may not be in Toyota's code, just in their cars.
I'm not sure the push is completely about censorship. I'd bet my stock in SCO that they want to charge a hefty registration fee for anything with the.xxx TLD. It's about funding ICANN't for the next year or two as much as it is "for the children" and "easy domain blacklisting".
.crp?.crp?? How did you know I was into carp? Man, I'd better make sure those new privacy settings on Facebook are working. I'd hate for my mom to see this - though, my birthday is coming up and I sure could use a few more coy for my pond.

That is what they aught to send up in that 7 foot by 4 foot cargo hold!
How secretive can it be if the launch is posted on /.?
It was possible to fully understand all of the old 8 and 16 but machines.
Personally I prefer my butts to be over 18, but to each his own I guess.

Just one, Mr Coogan, why do you ask?
Take me to the cleaners, and hurry!
I suspect if you called them "noise canceling earbuds" ...
Then Apple would sell them for iPods and they could cost even more.
Which is kind of insane thinking about it, a hearing aid is different from a heart stint with magnitudes order different levels of risk.
Unless you're finally able to hear ... and you hear a loud noise that startles you ... and you have a heart attach. What, it could happen.

You forget spammers and botnet operators, both large and growing markets.
Well, they'll just have to abide by the new HTML standards like the rest of us. What's fair is fair.

> ...it looks like the Golden Age of the web will continue...
Provided that your definition of a Golden Age includes many new and exciting exploits.
The web isn't just for the enjoyment of users. Developers need to get their fix of fun, too.
If they turn the key all the way off the steering wheel can lock. At least it does on my car.
They should just implement a huge red panic button to shut everything off :)
They could even buy them at Staples. Need to stop your out of control Toyota? That's easy.
That's b-r-a-k-i-n-g, not b-r-e-a-k-i-n-g.

Now, come on. We can't blame age for this. I plan to be that old one day ... as long as I don't buy a Toyota, that is.

I'm sure they'd start suing crying babies for copyright infringement even before the ink was dry on the paperwork to change their name.
