"When the Sun shines upon Earth, 2 - major Time points are created on opposite sides of Earth - known as Midday and Midnight. Where the 2 major Time forces join, synergy creates 2 new minor Time points we recognize as Sunup and Sundown."
Hate to say it but Gene Ray is sounding less and less bat-shyte as science learns more.:P
A thought occurred to me and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinion or can provide further information. If one ran Skype in a virtual machine in a host OS either through hypervisor style or purely software-wise, would that offer any additional security as the attackers would have to adjust for virtual network device translation, etc etc?
It would seem to me that this would give the end-user some level of safety from a would-be spy. Then again, I don't have much experience with virtualization, and none with this fancy Hypervisor level stuff. Hopefully I can get updated and get a chip which will support it soon!
As much as I hate the wait, I'm now faced with a similar dilemma to when Sims 2 arrived. Once again my rig is too underpowered to muster the polygons needed so the one good thing about waiting til September is that it gives me time to get the needed upgrades.
This game is going to be a revolutionary piece of digital artistry.
Z.o.m.g.Can't.Wait.
I gave up on Office after 2k3. I got tired of having to install Service Packs to plug all the security holes they'd integrated so deeply within the software itself.
Now I support OOo. I am incredibly thankful for FOSS. No service packs and a smaller install footprint!
"However, I'm still eagerly awaiting IBM to fully embrace this open ideal they're talking about."
I quote that for reemphasis. Perhaps you took my statement regarding the OS/2 codebase too personally. The remainder of my reply stands and I continue to applaud IBM's actions including what you had mentioned previously.
I'm definitely liking the stance IBM is taking here. OOXML clearly has some serious problems and its a relief to see that regardless of Micrsoft's perceived power, they can't muscle their way into ISO standards. However, I'm still eagerly awaiting IBM to fully embrace this open ideal they're talking about.
I think the EasyWiFi technology that they had to develop in order to get this to work is actually the cooler aspect of this project, especially since its compatible with normal WiFi hotspots.
I could see it becoming a handy addition to any Wifi setup for a mobile device.
The more I see stories like this, the more I feel that a full-on Big Brother world could be oncoming. Sure, it could provide all kinds of data on the technicalities of GPS tracking via mobile phone triangulation or whatnot, but how much danger is there that these kinds of 'experiments' could be field tests for a greater invasion of privacy? RealID or even RFID, combined with this sort of GPS tracking could provide all the pieces needed to make our highway system a channelized control mechanism.
I should be more 'forward thinking' for my age I suppose. Does anyone else think that our privacy outweighs the convenience that realtime navigation and itinerary interactivity could potentially provide?
Yeah, could be something afoot here. Suppression of access to information is a powerful tactic in censoring a society or at least giving you a bit more time to mask the information in question or put control measures into place.
Think of all the 1's and 0's flowing into the ocean right now?! The cost to the environment here is appalling. Someone turn the valves on that internet backbone, stat!
Think about the animals!
As much as I'd like to stand around and say "Haha" and post a Nelson pic, this article is extremely uninformed and biased. Cedega/Wine can do some great things, but really now, people still don't know how to set an individual.exe's properties for OS compatibility?
Also, I think the setup might have some effect here. A GeforceFX? Jeebus. If you expect reasonable performance on that, I don't know what rock you've been under.
There's alot of people bemoaning this act as something akin to throwing bricks through windows or invading someone's home and shutting the book they're reading. To that I really have to ask the question: when did your soul die and how long were you the 'industry' before it happened?
This was a hilarious prank. Unfortunately the prankers never finished Urban Mischief 101 and forgot how to divulge the info publicly. The goal is to maintain anonymity and still get others to enjoy the prank. The fact that they got caught reeks of epic fail. This was no act of vandalism or even corporate sabotage. Its a funny. Its meant to show us how easy it can be to throw a wrench in the gears of the corporate world.
Why has Apple's remote 'pairing' technology not spread to the industry? Because something like this hadn't happened and because even though the industry knew it could, they were simply too lazy.
Actually taking causality into account, haven't we already found them? Now we're just all falling toward the singularity that moment created in the future::raises pinky to corner of mouth
December 21, 2012 anyone?
SETI is 100% worth it. The person who mentioned fusion research was corrrect. We can't get a fusion reactor without a long investment of research and we can't verify the existence of another species without a potentially infinitely long investment, but I believe it is worth it in the end.
Now I don't know how similar to us these aliens will/could be. They could be very different biologically and psychologically. The psychological evolution that they will have experienced comes directly from their technological advancements and the behavior patterns that such technology necessitates. Here we are, wondering if we can keep a crew 'sane' on the year or so long trip to Mars. These aliens will have gone through that same technological/psychological transformation and likely will have transcended many of the issues that make such a long journey difficult for us.
I would think that they will see themselves in us and that will be what gives them the common ground needed for contact.
Simultaneously, alot of this is optimism because there's nothing stopping an arriving alien from being a Galactus. That is, it doesn't *have* to be a society of individuals like we hope they are.
Are there any limits on the number of rewrites with these type of solid state drives, vs like a typical SD card? Surely, they must be a bit better than the average SD card.

Free the OS/2 codebase.
