I hate web ads as much as the next bloke but I used to work at a national newspaper in England and worked very closely with the project manager of the systems we used for Online advertising on our website. Funny thing is I used FF with AdBlock and some of my colleagues blocked ads in different ways and we all agreed, still ads are fine, its the moving, noisy and expanding ads which are the worst, oh and those ads in the middle of the article, they also drive me nuts!!
The only problem is, as most people know, less people are buying newspaper these days, we HAD to had adverts on the website, or basically our company would collapse, and that's a sad truth, if people where still buying papers in their big numbers, it wouldn't be such a problem, but they are simply not and numbers are only going down more! But that is no excuse for companies putting the ads on we hate, but you have to sympathise with the company for putting any ads on because they need the money!
In our newspaper, we had ads, everyone newspaper does, but they are still, they don't move, I can easily ignore them if I want to without going into a fit of rage, on the web cam I do that? Oh no no...unless I use adblocker, and I will continue to use, until the companies out there realise that we will keep on blocking, and telling everyone else to block until they use newspaper type adverts!!

I know that dell et al stuff crap on the PC's, I build my own because I don't want this shit nor do I trust that the parts are what they say they are (I buy an Nvidia 8800, I know I got it, dell gives it to me, I think its some dodgy knock down weather it truly is or not).
Yes, my XP machine runs like a dream, because I am not a dumb user and look after my machine, so it never gets infected, and Google desktop isn't malware crap that your don't choose to install. But I do not like, every install now seaming to come with yahoo! tool bar install, or Hoogle desktop install built in, forget to tick that box, and you have to un-install after, I never forget, but its still annoying knowing I could.
Mac owners often say how they are glad there isn't the kind of shit that PC computers get that slow it all down etc. But here we see, the first wave of pure tat is hitting the Macs, so there is no escaping the shitty software like Google desktop that floats around the PC world. Then we will get mac with it loaded on already from suppliers like cell (dell) and AESH (MESH) so you need to format and re-install when you buy, then the spy/ad ware will hit...
This doesn't surprise me too much, but I would say I am very intelligent, at 20 and though my teenage years I listened to fuck loads of music. I never joined any kind of group, I was me, listened to what I liked even though it spanned from pill-popping Hard Trance, to placebo, to new jazz to drum and bass. I have other friends who are equally as intelligent, and they also, didn't join any group, we just where us, not like punks or Emo's or goth's or any other group shit.
That being said, I know a lot of intelligent people though friends,work etc, who love hard dance, love going out doing some pills in a huge club, getting off your face for a few hours, but I guess we'd all be thought of as un-intelligent etc. Think back to first year uni, come on, everyone's off there face for a good year (well in England anyway), but you can't say that all of those people are idiots. My XP machine runs so well, no problems, no crash's, I couldn't fault my machine in anyway, OK I do have to run AV, Firewall, Anti-spywhere and I run hitman (check that bad boy out if you dont know it www.hitmanpro.nl) once a week, but thats fine, doesn't interrupt or ruin my computing life in anyway, I have no reasons to switch to linux, it happily runs as my dev machine, or a mac. I feel most people here, feel the same. Then vista, sticks all this extra crap in there, other OS's use it aswell, the whole admin password thing, ubuntu springs to mind I do belive, and all us lot are like, oh come on...WTF, I can use a damn computer.
But, alas outside our small geek world, I've met a lot of non geeks, actually all of my Ex Gf's where total non-geeks who used it for word, myspace and msn and thats about it, and the amount of pure SHIT that was on there PC's, out of date AV's, firewalls turned off, and just genral bad practice that they had, made me realise, that actually (no offense here, most of my friends are the same) most users are completly shit with computers.
I would hate to get into a linux Vs windows argument here, but if we are honest with our selves, if everyone over night switched to linux, they would still be compleltly useless with computers (include all virus writers etc also switching to linux) and wouldn't we be in a simular (although abit less worse situation due to the amount of linux distros etc) situaton? Maybe I am wrong, I dont know maybe someone can counter my argument.

I think one important thing to remember is that unless you are very very talented,m or lucky, then your going to be starting at the bottom. I wouldn't expect anyone with only just a degree under their belt to be writing great cool news things right away, I mean, to be honest, you have a degree, but in the big bad world of programmers, you actually don't know much, as you still have little experiance.

I am now 20 and in my first proper job. My parents had a system that worked for me, and I liked, they left me the fuck alone. Sure they cared and worried, they wernt crap parents, but left me to my own devices as such. I've had my computer since about 13 and a PC at home since about 10. I often spent hours on it after school and at the weekend, playing games, programming, learning things, web stuff, genral crap you do on PC as a geek. I loved gaming, especially Online FPS's. Now, I did well on my GCSE's (im from england) I got 3 a-levels and now I work at 'TheGuardian' Newspaper (national english newspaper) in IT. I would say im doing pretty damn good. I also did a CCNA and MCSA from finishing my a-levels and getting this job (took about a yearish). My parents never took my PC away, never told me to turn off TV, I usually did my HW, I got BBC in my 3 a-levels, good GCSE's....you tell me im doing bad because I spent uber long hours on my computer.
Basically, I had common sense to do my HW most of the time, goto school, but I learnt a shit loads on computers for obvious reasons. I guess some kids do need moderation, its down to the individual, but aswell as the parents aswell. My parents never threteened to take anything away, I think its BS personall, and thankfully my parents arnt like that. I got no moderation, PC in my room with broadband, and im doing well. So its not clear cut
I live in Kent, England, and commute (by train) to London where I work. We are currently paying about £0.92 for diesel (which on another note, the yanks should start using diesel as I return 65mpg on motorways, 50mpg around town;)) and that's high compeered to you so as all us English foke say "STFU moaning!"
Another note, and something we always say as well, is that over there you all drive HUGE cars that do about 5mpg, how about you downsize a little to a car that does a fuck lot more MPG...that might be an intelligent move. I am hating it at the minute because for some reason, some dumb fuckers here are buying SUV's and 4x4's. Farmers or people who actually NEED 4x4's that's fine you need it. But for just having a bigger car that does about 5-10mpg its shitting dumb. I just hope the Tory's get in power and wack a £50 day tax on those shit things.
Oh and if anyone says anything about diesels not being fast. My Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDi remapped does 0-60mph in about 6.7 seconds (done on gtec timer) and easily return 40mpg around town and 55+ on motorways.

In england we have about £1 a liter, thats £4 a gallon roughly, now do the exchange on £4 to $'s, and you'll see to quit moanin. 4x4's and SUV's are bollocks and luckily in England, there getting taxed higher and higher especially in central london with the congestion charge. In europe though, we are more diesel friendly. Partly because european Diesel is better then Yank diesel, but also I think there is more stigma attached with diesels in America then Europe. There are many fast diesels are 0-60(mph) times bellow 6 seconds and top speeds of over 140mph and yet with 50-60mpg (English gallon).
The sooner we can all run on hybrid or hydrogen, the better. I just hope that when we do, we are not past the point of no return
I partially agree with the poster. In this teenage to low twenties age (usually uni age), you see a lot of playful sexual nature between the sexes. I mean arse slapping, could be seen as sexual assault but it happens so much in a playful way that its not really seamed bad. Maybe they went too far, I don't know the full ins and outs or seen the video, but maybe it was just them thinking it was a joke and didn't think she would get like this about it. Or maybe they had bad thoughts in their head, in which case, yeah that's bad.
You think about all the tea-bag joke pictures on the Internet of uni students and alike, come on! I fully agree, people who LOOK at this stuff, need counselling to get off it, they need help. What does prison do...nothing. When I started counselling when I found out I had Asperger syndrome, the first thing she said is "its all confidential unless I think you will cause harm to anyone, anyone will cause harm to you, or anything involving children" so at the end of the day, if people who look at this want help, they cant get it. They speak to someone about it, police get called, if they person doesn't tell the police and does help them, but the police find out, that councillor gets done for an accessory or something.
So its a lose lose situation, look at probably get caught, or try and get help and get caught. Either way, the ideology of "Catch and punish" doesn't work, which is why I am fully opposed to Sarah's Law here in England, many ex-pedo's who try and get help after prison (which they do) and integrate them selves back into society will face isolation and possible beatings/tortures/damaged property

I home build all my PC's (other then Laptops although I would like to move to this aswell) but as I am not miving in to IT, i always though of Dells as not bad options with regards to kitting out rooms with PC's. You do have a valid point but what I am trying to say is that if these people are statistacally abnormal then its only a small number of people that would want to look at said material so whether freenet is their or not, they would still be like the way they are.

This is what they use, ok some use the internet, and this would catch those, but as many of you will be familur with: "Freenet is for childporn, as the internet is for porn" I dont think it will do anything to be honest...other then some peado's at ISP's have an easier to access store
I home build all my PC's (other then Laptops although I would like to move to this aswell) but as I am not miving in to IT, i always though of Dells as not bad options with regards to kitting out rooms with PC's. Now I heard this, I am staying well clear. I dont want any PC to come with shit that I dont want. I dont want any google crap on any PC that I buy. Frankly I think I'll stick to the HP Compaq's we have at my company, which seam to work very well sans le shit
Why is it that most people here think Americans wont enter the compertition because they have jobs as if Europeans dont have jobs. The English are widly known to work the most hours in the week, the least amount of hoildays in the year and have a high retaring age. So why is it that alot of people here seam to think they dont have team as if the europeans only have a 10 hour week or something
Are you being serious...The English easily work 40 hours plus a week infact england has the least amount of holidays and we are widly known to work the hardest and longest with high retireing ages aswell, so what our saying is something totally un-researched and just utter non-sense. Its also a reason why England is notorious for getting absolutly Garry Gatterd at the weekend

You do have a valid point but what I am trying to say is that if these people are statistacally abnormal then its only a small number of people that would want to look at said material so whether freenet is their or not, they would still be like the way they are.
Also I was not suggesting that these people has any kind of brain damage in the terms that brain damage is medically, but their is obviosily something wrong if only a small number of people like this. I dont think you could compear posting on slashdot and looking at CP, they are completly different things. I think that if a small number of people like this then it is an abnormality and so I belive their is something wrong with their brains. Thats just my personal opionion, but there is hardly any studies in these kind of people are they are a mistury to psychologist as so many different kind of people like it from teenagers to old men, to women, there is no set person. Its just my belief untill someone comes up with more conclusive evidence.
