I could be wrong here, but isnt quantum computing where CPUs are atoms and not electronic circuits. So that means you can have differnt levels of atoms as they are so small, and as they are so small can fit many many (thats my word for a fuck load) of atoms on a cpu surface so if each atom can pass on 'message' and you have many levels each filled with (i have no number so we call it 1^100) atoms on each level you would be hitting speeds close to the human brain. I could be totally wrong here I am using infomation i was told about, about 2 years ago now.
man this just makes me more and more glad i dont live in America. No offence but, I like being in england, with our no advert ridden channels, well 2 of them. This is freedom and choice and i dont think any ISP should be forced to par-take in this. Maybe child porn would be a starting point, but not just poen all together. How man men look at porn, how man goverment officials look at porn i wonder...exactly
he program is not meant to predict when the 'Big One' will occur, nor serve as a warning signal for residents to evacuate
Oh so it has a lot of point then;)
I would totally agree here. MS seams to be really pushing for a turn around for the company. I mean a few months, even yeas back we saw tehf rist turn arounds form MS and "promises" but it looks like these things are actally comming together. I hope MS is going to continue these good moves, since I dont think hatred of MS (and the fact they do things to make peole hate them) gets our world anywhere in IT things
I would say you're very right. I mean if Hitler hadn't of tried to take on too much he would of succeeded a lot more then he did, ok he had a good bash but if he wasn't so big thinking he would of been able to drag that war out a lot longer before losing. MS is doing the same sort of thing, they are taking on too much, and focussing on not just having a great OS and office product, but having pretty good tons of projects and I think its either hire a hell of a lot more staff, or cut down and focus more. As much as MS get flamed, they do have some really good ideas, like the latest office products like OneNote which I love now and a lot of brand new projects, but I think more focus is required in a smaller amount of projects. Get a few this r0x0ring first, and then expand.
That said, MS does seam to be making some slow, but positive steps towards improvement. What like 35% of research in to security, all this wireless, play4sure stuff and seamless computing, I hear they are talking for with the OS community and such like. I am looking forward to the future, as I believe, maybe in my own little world that MS are going to turn a lot of things round and make a lot of improvements. But let's wait and see
I would have to agree with you here. When I ran Deadly hosting the game server company i used Windows for my game server boxes and FreeBSD for things like teamspeak servers, re-direct servers etc. Thats because windows is better for game servers esspecially since windows versions always come out first, but there are performance issues aswell. FreeBSD however, isnt that powerful but its cheap and easy to run small boxes for a few little programs where there is no point paying a lisence fee for an OS which has so much power which i am not going to use.
Another thing I have to say, is cant fault windows support. They have always helped me and I like how you can contact them with reviews of their softwear and tell them if there help files are good or not down to a specific article. Open Source softwear is free or very cheap, so the programmers are not getting paid, hence they wont put 100% effot into it as they have other jobs etc or they will quickly move on to a paid job.
So support is a key issue. If i make i dont know...BlueHat, i have 15 coders and 3 lead coders. If 2 lead coders leave I might not have anyone good enough to replace them quickly. If i have deadlines and patches but missing 2 leaders then its not going to be very productive. Support has come up befor for Open source and although you can get other people to help you out, nothing is ever clear cut but with MS there is and they do have some of the worlds best programmers there.
I will use what ever tool is best for the job. I use XP becuse there is alot of programs for it, i like it, runs well, I can do everything that I want and more and unlike my windows 98 expriance, its totally stable, I cant actally remember the last time it crashed on me.
wow, partially drunk, i really shold of check it, ok that first line is in-correct i think its meant tobe "and your on of teh few people who isnt such a linuc fan boy and totally against thigns like this thiking bad things will happen" something like this anyway
i totally agree with your statement and your one of the few people who is a linux fan boy and is tottaly against this and think bad things will happen. There are vearious things happening with MS in recent months and years to suggest a slight shift towads there buisness. They have already opened up sevral things partially, but i htink as MS is so closed source and that its such a big company that it will take time for things like this to happen because of the shear complexety of it
i have just thought of something else. For those of you that watch the simpsons, do you remember the eppisode where Bart goes to France and this chezch kid who is a spy goes to the simpson family. At the end bart is going oh why cant i speak french I have been here for months and then comes out with alod of french. Well when i was in france one time, this eppisode was on, but of course in French. So...yeah that must of been very confusing, and stupid lol
To be called an MS fan boy here. But i have no problems with Office 2003. I can do everything that I want, Outlook does everything I want and thats the program I use most often being open 24/7. I wouldnt want to waste my time learning a new program, switching to something new and having to press differnt buttons, learn new logo's etc download install it, id rather spend all that time wasted doing somehting else like drinking beer, flying on Vatsim or coding. If OO can give me something that MS Office cant, then I might think about it, but untill then, I am happy with no complaints
I think we are forgetting one of the worst attempts at americanization. Men behaing Badly which i loved and still do on UK Gold, i caught it while in Canada in 1996 i think, it was with my sister. We saw the TV guide and thought it was english, after about 10 seconds we both looked at each other and said WTF is this shit...We never watched it ever again that holiday and that horrible 10 seconds will stick in our minds forever
ok so if its the fault of the programmer, and MS has some of the best programmers in the world, which are paid alot of moeny with alot of benifits...how long till we uncover a lot of buffer over runs in softwear which could be made from an any number of people with an any number of expriances. I am not trying to suggest anything, i am just wondering if there is somehting i am missing
I have to say that it is my miss-understanding that buffer over runs where of the fault of the programmer and not problems with just the general code it self, I should of thought that comment through more. I have no problems with windows, I always used to get massive crashing problems with Windows 98, but XP SP2 runs as smooth as anything for me, I get no problems and I can do what I want, when I want. It is far easier to get software, maybe that's me being maybe, biased against Linux software, but I find there is more windows based software around. One thing with running a game server company, is that (although I think I will get alot of people disagreeing with me here but if you are in the business you would of read discussion after discussion this argument) Games run alot better on a windows platform (by games i mean dedicated online gaming servers). Someone then said to me, that that it true with a stock Kernel, if you get a better Kernel for your Linux distro. its just as good. Well I can get windows, not learn anything new, know where anything is or at least be able to easily find it set it up straight away and not have to upgrade any "Kernel". Ok this is one example. But now thinking, I will leave it there, as this is pointless. Windows runs great for me, I don't have problems, I like the MCSE, I think there are improvements to be made in several areas of MS, but I also think that Linux still has a long way to go. And as long as I am happy, and running great, what does it all matter if someone else doesn't agree. Happy days people....Happy days:)
I would have to agree with that, and i was just talking to my friend in the pub about this tonight. I think MS think..Operating system, tonns of featurs, which in my eyese are very powerful and useful, but not always needed. For say jsut a small DNS or WINS server, you just want a couple of tools here and there very cheap running costs, very little maintaince, but you need a whole windows OS jsut for that which for a small DNS server, wouldnt able to run on since its probably somehting not very poerful.
So basically i think windows should make cut down versions of windows, maybe with jsut a command line to save all the resorces as possible for the machine that can be used on older, less powerful machines
all I can say is that I am glad in the UK we have BBC1 and BBC2 which have no adds what ever..ahh bliss. It was odd (but very very good)wathcing the box sets of friends that are colleting at my house, no breaks, its great
When i ran Deadly Hosting (we sold up for a nice sum:) lol) we used a combination of Windows server 2000/2004 and FreeBSD boxes, for different things, we used powerful Win servers for the actuel gaming servers but small and easy to use FreeBSD boxes for things like re-direct servers, voice servers and things. Instead of being one or the other, i think companies or jsut end users in genral, benifit from using both.
To be honest, its my personal feeling that Windows is better suited to desktops. I did read one stat one where which said somrhthing like 66% of linux workstations use a cracked copy of windows. I find windows easy to use and install, call me a point a click nub, but if i can do alot without having to remember commands, it works in my favor.
So in closing, i think you cant say Win or Lin is better because they excel in different things, and I think the geek world needs to accept both in order for it to move on. What happens when say, a linux company starts comming as big as Microsoft, are they being as bad and lets be honest, alot of windows problems are C++ buffer over runs which as it fault of the languge, not the programming, also being the most widly used OS its bound to have more holes discoverd as more people (like 12 year olds now can get on net and learn how to crack programs and find security holes) are doing it on windows systems.
Also another side and my second closing (lol) is that Microsoft does alot of good. Gates give the most to charity (i think he gives the most in the world), there traninig scheme is good with alot of people doing, I for 1 am starting my MCSE in september, and have a big reasearch department, look a mobile computing, wireless, the whole wireless home idear with windows media centre. I wonder how much of the advanced we have today, would be here without MS. I cant say and maybe it made no difference, but i personally think that they have made a big diffenrece.....ermm ok slighly off topic at the end but....:)
hmm..just wondering. Everyone say the foutain pen etc, then i thought of a device (cant rmemeber the name) which means things to mm acuacy, micrometre i think as we used them in physics. Well this revolutionaised thigns and started the industia age. This is very important, but is it a gadget?
I run a GSP company, and we use about 400-500GB of bandwidth a month per server, so unless your going to download lots of films, music tv programs etc, which is bad due to the fact that the people who make them DO NOT get their money for their work, i doubt you would go over 500gb very often
Im sorry but the term WTF comes to mind. How far behind are Americas..here in England as have been using SMS for years..befor 2000. Think is amazing, how far behind are the ameericans..also how dumb are they not realising that sms is pay per text...WTF us English really are advanced
lol ok, i am sure there is something else along these line however where atoms are used inside a cpu, but i thoguht it was quantum computing
