I am an online student at DeVry going for my BS in Computer Information Systems with an option in Computer Forensics. And as for taking classes that are unrelated to computers, my curriculum includes a handful, such as English composition, critical thinking and group work, and several business classes. I am a parent who works full time odd hours so that I can have a place to live and food for my family, thus the reason for online. The Critical Thinking and Group work class I took last semester required me to work with 4 other people online (me from Michigan, one from Connecticut, one from Texas, and one from Florida), to collaborate, solve, and prepare a presentation about a fictional company that had a problem. I personally, think that working in groups online can take a lot more than in person; there are more factors to take into account than in face2face group work. I think I took more away because of that, also, I am seeing more and more collaboration between companies being done across a long distance than as much in person. For the most part, the course work is computers, all of which can be done on any computer... except for exams; there testing software requires windows... a load of crap. I think, though I haven't graduated, that my degree will still mean something when I go for a job. It might not be as heavily weighted as a real class room degree, but it is a degree all the same where I did learn something, and put in more time per day and week than is generally required for a class room degree.

  4. Re:No kidding? on RIAA Goes After Satellite Radio · · Score: 5, Insightful

The RIAA thinks they have a right here because they are making a case that web radio and satalite radio use buffers and there for copy the music, which real radio dosnt. Just wait folks, soon you will be walking down the street whistling a new song you heard on the radio, and an RIAA lawyer will pop up demanding royalties because you memerized it and are reproducing it at a lesser but still recognizable quality. There need to be a line drawn, I'm half joking, but I wouldn't be suprised if the RIAA made it a reality.

You seem to be alittle set off by this. Think of it in this sence. If the MPAA were to win and a presidence was set, then they would begin going after every one they could, soon, your friends and co-workers are arrested for downloading... god forbid, white chicks. would you point the finger at your friends while standing on your soap box saying "I told you so"? Yes there is a legal issue involved, but the moral aspect is when is it time to stop the law? do you want to be locked up because you told your friend that you saw a hooker on the corner of 5th and Main, he went to her and purchased services, and now your hit because you told him where she was? i know thats a loose line to draw, but you seem smart, think about it.

For over a year I used IE without knowing some of the side effects. When i finaly figured it out, and I tried to remove some 500 spyware items off my computer, I lost it all, all 50 gigs of music games and movies. It has been 6 months since then and it has taken me that long to amass something close to what i had. I started using firefox and thunderbird soon as i reinstalled windows (Not using linux because i dont know enough about how to use it and dont have time to learn) since then I have has maybe 10 spyware things (mostly cookies or things that came attached to other legit downloads). I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO IE, no matter what, i swear by firefox and i push all my friends to make the switch.

While I don't agree with a full ban, I do agree in the rating system as a quide line. This proposal from what i read, isn't banning the games outright, but limiting sales to minors. I for one don't agree that it is the job of the sales department to verify age. Think of how long it would take to get a game if they had to ID everyone in the same fashion as alcohol, every person who looks under 25 has to be IDed. More what you should be asking is why aren't the parents in line with them. I mean come on, I am full willing to sit down with my duaghter and play GTA3:SA right along with her. If you are so worried about your child being messed up by a video game, then obviously you didn't raise them well.
