Thank you THAT is much more like the reality most folks face! heck i live in a college town and the fastest you can get is 80 Mbps and that will cost you a cool $200 a month, residential speeds max out at 25 Mbps and that is in off hours, most of the day we are looking at 9 Mbps-11 Mbps.
Now what fricking good would a 10 Gbps router and cards do in that situation? Especially since as i said a lot of folks will have to toss their gear, hell I have more than most have access to and only the gamer rig would even be possible to go with a card, there is no card slot on the netbook (and frankly most of the new laptops I see don't have card slots either, they are using that space for SD/MMC card readers) and the netbox has one PCIe and the rest PCI, so I'd have to pretty much throw out everything and start over...and for what? My net will never even hit 1 Gbps, soo all it would gain me is fast transfers between machines...so bloody what?
The simple fact is most people? just aren't gonna care, not enough to justify the high prices the hardware is selling at. Maybe when IP V6 routers that run 10 Gbps are less than $100 and motherboards come with the chip, then and ONLY then will you see it get adopted, but now? just not gonna happen, mark my words like 3D and 4K TVs its gonna be a strictly niche market.

Even the most generous estimates show that even if we throw trillions we don't have at it with current tech renewables will only provide at most around 30% of the US power needs, and that is IF we don't use any more than we are using now but if you want us to switch to hybrids? I would say that description? Probably covers more than 70% of your population, more if you count all those using dual core laptops (which are waaay slower) as their main system...seriously dude, they will be lucky if they can max out a 100Mbps, if they got even half of what a 1Gbps could do it would be a fucking miracle. I mean why do you think PC sales have dropped? Its because people are happy with what they have and just aren't spending the money.
For 10Gbps to become anything but high dollar playtoys you would need mass adoption and honestly? I seriously doubt the majority of machines would even be able to hold enough hardware to make it even work. hell my system is more powerful than most but thanks to the way most boards are laid out you can't get to the PCIe X1 with a graphics card in place so the only way I'd have to even add a 10Gbps card would be to just chunk my entire system and start over and most folks simply won't do that, especially when as i pointed out the national average net speed isn't even 50Mbps.

So unlike the consoles YOU get to choose what is and is not acceptable, whereas the consoles are strictly "my way or the highway". So if you buy a game that clearly says that it has this or that DRM? Again that is YOUR choice and you DO have options, with more and more games added to the DRM free camp daily. Personally I like Steam because it gives me cheaper prices, chat, updates, MP matchmaking, and much better customer support than I've seen from any retailer BAR NONE, hell I had a rep in less than an hour going "How can i help?" on Xmas eve, now THAT is service!
But if you don't like it there is Desura, GFWL, GOG, Indie Gala, Humble Bundle, you have choices up the ying yang friend, go choose what is right for YOU and have fun. Just watching the previews there is product placement and then there is a movie length commercial, that Resident Evil where they had the simulated cities (so they can have an assload of billboards for Alice to be seen in front of) was a good example of product placement taking over the show but from the commercials...damn. I just hope Google paid to have this movie made because in the 3 previews i saw the thing looks like a giant loveletter to all things Google.

Personally I think its great and is just one more example of how now that the consoles are all going to online only DRM boxes that PC gaming is the way to go. Thanks to good old fashioned competition there is MUCH better prices, the indie devs get more of a percentage than the consoles, you have a huge choice in places to shop, the hardware has never been cheaper (hell I've built machines that game great for less than $350) and you of course control it, I'd say its just a better experience all around.

Congrats you rolled the dice and they went your way, I have had the same happen with asrock and gigabyte but what you fail to grasp is on the low end the boards are VERY inconsistent and you may have one board that like it, the next don't, hell with the asrock boards the RAM speed detection is all over the place so one board will fire straight up and the next have the default RAM speeds set so damned high it won't even go past post, that don't make them bad boards though, it just means you have to know the "quirks" when it comes to the companies.
You've had...what? 4 boards? 5? maybe 6? Do you have ANY idea how many boards pass through your typical PC shop on any given month? New boards, refurbs, OEMs, I've handled more boards than you've had hot meals son but just because a board has a quirk doesn't make them bad, hell they all have quirks to one degree or another, and from what I've seen the low end and OEM boards by Asus can be picky when it comes to USB booting. If you find the right stick or drive? Its all gravy, but you may have to try a few before you find one it really likes. i don't know if its voltage differences or drive geometry or what, that is just the way it is. It no different than how asrock is with RAM timings, Gigabyte can be picky about mismatched RAM,boards built for Compaq can be picky as hell when it comes to CPUs, like I said they ALL have quirks.

Uhh..why are you booting from USB? There is your problem, Asus boards really don't like booting from USB, if you want to boot from USB a lot an Asrock or gigabyte would have been a better choice.
How EXACTLY is it a "big" problem? Its something that is trivial to disable if you don't want it and frankly if Torvalds wasn't constantly shitting out new kernels it really wouldn't be hard to get your kernel signed and use it in Linux.
Ironically the ones who usually scream about it being a "problem" don't seem to have this "problem" with Chromebooks even though unlike UEFI Secureboot the ONLY way to get around it in a Chromebook is to put in a page and a half of CLI garbage in "dev mode", completely wipe your drive (no dual booting allowed) and then and ONLY then can you use one of a few small select distros that will run on what should be just a bog standard X86 laptop. say what you will but at least with Secureboot I can dual boot and use any OS I want with the hardware.

Thank you THAT is much more like the reality most folks face! heck i live in a college town and the fastest you can get is 80 Mbps and that will cost you a cool $200 a month, residential speeds max out at 25 Mbps and that is in off hours, most of the day we are looking at 9 Mbps-11 Mbps.
Now what fricking good would a 10 Gbps router and cards do in that situation? Especially since as i said a lot of folks will have to toss their gear, hell I have more than most have access to and only the gamer rig would even be possible to go with a card, there is no card slot on the netbook (and frankly most of the new laptops I see don't have card slots either, they are using that space for SD/MMC card readers) and the netbox has one PCIe and the rest PCI, so I'd have to pretty much throw out everything and start over...and for what? My net will never even hit 1 Gbps, soo all it would gain me is fast transfers between machines...so bloody what?
The simple fact is most people? just aren't gonna care, not enough to justify the high prices the hardware is selling at. Maybe when IP V6 routers that run 10 Gbps are less than $100 and motherboards come with the chip, then and ONLY then will you see it get adopted, but now? just not gonna happen, mark my words like 3D and 4K TVs its gonna be a strictly niche market.

I would say that description? Probably covers more than 70% of your population, more if you count all those using dual core laptops (which are waaay slower) as their main system...seriously dude, they will be lucky if they can max out a 100Mbps, if they got even half of what a 1Gbps could do it would be a fucking miracle. I mean why do you think PC sales have dropped? Its because people are happy with what they have and just aren't spending the money.
For 10Gbps to become anything but high dollar playtoys you would need mass adoption and honestly? I seriously doubt the majority of machines would even be able to hold enough hardware to make it even work. hell my system is more powerful than most but thanks to the way most boards are laid out you can't get to the PCIe X1 with a graphics card in place so the only way I'd have to even add a 10Gbps card would be to just chunk my entire system and start over and most folks simply won't do that, especially when as i pointed out the national average net speed isn't even 50Mbps.

So unlike the consoles YOU get to choose what is and is not acceptable, whereas the consoles are strictly "my way or the highway". So if you buy a game that clearly says that it has this or that DRM? Again that is YOUR choice and you DO have options, with more and more games added to the DRM free camp daily. Personally I like Steam because it gives me cheaper prices, chat, updates, MP matchmaking, and much better customer support than I've seen from any retailer BAR NONE, hell I had a rep in less than an hour going "How can i help?" on Xmas eve, now THAT is service!
But if you don't like it there is Desura, GFWL, GOG, Indie Gala, Humble Bundle, you have choices up the ying yang friend, go choose what is right for YOU and have fun. Just watching the previews there is product placement and then there is a movie length commercial, that Resident Evil where they had the simulated cities (so they can have an assload of billboards for Alice to be seen in front of) was a good example of product placement taking over the show but from the commercials...damn. I just hope Google paid to have this movie made because in the 3 previews i saw the thing looks like a giant loveletter to all things Google.

Personally I think its great and is just one more example of how now that the consoles are all going to online only DRM boxes that PC gaming is the way to go. Thanks to good old fashioned competition there is MUCH better prices, the indie devs get more of a percentage than the consoles, you have a huge choice in places to shop, the hardware has never been cheaper (hell I've built machines that game great for less than $350) and you of course control it, I'd say its just a better experience all around.

Congrats you rolled the dice and they went your way, I have had the same happen with asrock and gigabyte but what you fail to grasp is on the low end the boards are VERY inconsistent and you may have one board that like it, the next don't, hell with the asrock boards the RAM speed detection is all over the place so one board will fire straight up and the next have the default RAM speeds set so damned high it won't even go past post, that don't make them bad boards though, it just means you have to know the "quirks" when it comes to the companies.
You've had...what? 4 boards? 5? maybe 6? Do you have ANY idea how many boards pass through your typical PC shop on any given month? New boards, refurbs, OEMs, I've handled more boards than you've had hot meals son but just because a board has a quirk doesn't make them bad, hell they all have quirks to one degree or another, and from what I've seen the low end and OEM boards by Asus can be picky when it comes to USB booting. If you find the right stick or drive? Its all gravy, but you may have to try a few before you find one it really likes. i don't know if its voltage differences or drive geometry or what, that is just the way it is. It no different than how asrock is with RAM timings, Gigabyte can be picky about mismatched RAM,boards built for Compaq can be picky as hell when it comes to CPUs, like I said they ALL have quirks.

How EXACTLY is it a "big" problem? Its something that is trivial to disable if you don't want it and frankly if Torvalds wasn't constantly shitting out new kernels it really wouldn't be hard to get your kernel signed and use it in Linux.
Ironically the ones who usually scream about it being a "problem" don't seem to have this "problem" with Chromebooks even though unlike UEFI Secureboot the ONLY way to get around it in a Chromebook is to put in a page and a half of CLI garbage in "dev mode", completely wipe your drive (no dual booting allowed) and then and ONLY then can you use one of a few small select distros that will run on what should be just a bog standard X86 laptop. say what you will but at least with Secureboot I can dual boot and use any OS I want with the hardware.
